		KT66 is the designator for a vacuum tube introduced by Marconi-Osram Valve Co. Ltd.
		The KT66 is the direct descendant of the "Harries Valve" developed by British engineer J. Owen Harries and marketed by the Hivac Co. Ltd.
		Harries is believed to be the first engineer to discover the "critical distance" effect, which maximized the efficiency of a power tetrode by positioning its anode at a distance which is a specific multiple of the screen grid-cathode distance.

	AudioKarma.org Discussion Forums - Howdy from a new guy-and a question!
		I found it strange that the HH Scott website list this as a KT66 amps when in its stock form there is no way it could reliably run them in the long run.
		I personally love the fat sound the KT66 produces in the 296 kind of reminds me a McIntosh but with good 6L6GC's its sounds darn good and is probably more accurate.
		As far as plate glow on KT66 yes it is the norm to have some on what I call the "wings" of the plates.

		It doesn't work with cheap phony imitations which are made by the same companies as the better ones that can often be recognized by their impressive vacuum envelopes.
		These lines are drawn for a pair of EL34 but the constructor of those tubes made an effort making the tube interchangeable with the KT66 and friends.
		Note that the base connections of the EL34 have a separate connection for grid 3 where the KT66 and friends have a non connected (NC) connection.

		The oldest is the 6L6GCP, previously Golden Dragon KT66.
		The more accurate KT66 is listed as the "Chinese" KT66 - (available matched and unmatched) this leads to some confusion, as the VAC tube (above) is also made in China.
		It is capable of handling the much larger plate voltage that the original MOV KT66 is rated for, and will put out more power when set up right.

		The KT66 was essentially a 6L6 redesigned with a larger cathode and a shorter, fatter anode.
		The KT66 had less rapid acceleration, longer electron paths, and almost no kink.
		It was ace for audio hi-fi but the electrons took longer to reach the anode and were more open to influence from magnetic, etc, fields on the way.

	VALVE ART
		Tubes like KT88 and KT66 are re-matched at JAC Music, at higher bias conditions, same as used by Electro Harmonix.
		The KT66 is the European version of the 6L6, but I the KT66 is much better.
		For instance the KT66 was used by the Company QUAD for their HiFi amplifiers, but the 6L6 didn't make it any further than a guitar tube.

	Orange Amps Forum - Installing KT66's in my Rockerverb 100...
		I've e-mailed Orange twice and have not received a response as of yet.
		I've not flipped the switch over to the KT66 side to find out if the Plate Voltage changes (I don't think it does - I think it switches in/out a bias resistor in series with the control pot)
		His formula is 70% idle, but mine, from the factory, was @ 60% idle.

		While it is impossible to prove, it is a reasonable assumption that Eric used an aluminium chassis 1959 with KT66 output valves.
		While the KT66 and EL34 are interchangeable, they have very different performance characteristics and sound.
		It is Clapton’s use of this amp coupled with the 1959/60 Les Paul that gave the early Cream sound.

		I understand either is more musical than the standard 5881.
		Also,the KT66 has higher Va (B+) rating at 500v and the 5881 is lower at 360v.
		The KT66 has 1.2a heater, while the 5881 a 0.9a heater.

		You are probably going to modify them but it is much better to start with a working pair of original amps than have to solve all kinds of problems that may have been caused by someone messing around with them.
		The majority of the 6L6 family draw 0.9 amps, but the KT66 and KT88 (and particularly the EL34) are exceptions.
		A very good alternative to the GD KT66-R (if you're on a budget) is the excellent 350B which is shaped similalrly to a Mullard GZ32, but which is an output pentode, and will drop in without alteration.

		The other tube that would run without to many changes is the KT66, in fact the KT66 may sound better, compare the KT88 to a 300B and the KT66 to a 2A3 and you get the picture.
