KTRS, "The Big 550" on the AM dial, is also the flagship station of the St Louis Blues of the National Hockey League and the AM radio partner of the St. Louis Rams of the National Football League.
The Cardinals' purchase of 50 percent of KTRS requires approval from the Federal Communications Commission, with approval expected to be a formality and granted by the end of the calendar year.
KTRS will join the Cardinals in the move to the new Busch Stadium in the spring of 2005, and the radio station will eventually relocate from its West Port Plaza location to the new Ballpark Village, which will be developed in the location of the current Busch Stadium.

The US Federal Communications Comission (FCC) has granted a six-month temporary licence to allow KTRS 550 AM in St Louis, Missouri to continue operating despite losing two of its four transmission towers during a storm on Wednesday night.
The licence allows KTRS to broadcast non-directional at night with a power of 1,250 watts using a single tower.
According to a statement from KTRS, this will not affect its listeners throughout the Midwest during the day nor those in the St Louis metropolitan area at night.

But according to the Arbitron ratings, KTRS has just 2.5 percent of the St. Louis audience - down 22 percent from the 3.2 figure last winter.
