KTTV as an independent by the 1970s offered the traditional independent schedule of the morning cartoons, mid-morning sitcoms, locally produced talk shows, some first run syndicated shows in prime time, cartoons in the mid to late afternoons, off network sitcoms in early evenings, an 8 p.m.
But as time went on KTTV dropped the morning cartoons for a new early morning newscast and an early morning news show, Good Day L.A., which premiered in 1993.
KTTV relocated to new studios a few miles away in West Los Angeles, near the Fox network headquarters (the network's headquarters are on the lot of 20th Century Fox studios).

The station was co-owned by the Los Angeles Times and CBS, and KTTV was the original Los Angeles affiliate of the CBS television network.
Australian newspaper publisher Rupert Murdoch and his company, the News Corporation, purchased KTTV and the other Metromedia television stations in 1986, and those stations formed the basis for his new Fox television network.
On an ironic note, KTTV also runs daily reruns of another sitcom, I Love Lucy, which had premiered months after the station lost its CBS affiliation.

From 1949 to 1996, Los Angeles television station KTTV (Channel 11) was housed here, and radio stations KMET 94.7 FM (now KTWV) and KLAC AM 570, both owned by Metromedia Broadcasting at the time, moved here in mid-1976.
In 1986, Metromedia sold KTTV to the Fox Broadcasting Company, and the studios became the Fox Television Center, even though Metromedia continued to own the building and the land on which it was situated, therefore leasing the property to Fox and KTTV.
KTTV moved to its own new building (the new Fox Television Center) in West Los Angeles in 1996, which is the corporate home of the Fox Television Stations Group.

KTTV seems to have a particularly difficult time with the color white — a bit of a problem since that’s the color worn by at least 50 percent of the participants in any pro football game.
It’s as if KTTV is intentionally making its football broadcasts look like a real live video game — a terrible-looking video game, but a video game nonetheless.
So I have to wonder if this is something KTTV is doing, or some horrible conspiracy on the part of Rupert Murdoch and Paul Taglibue to sell more high-definition TVs so that I don’t have to watch LaDainian Tomlinson and his ghostly double break off open-field runs whenever the Chargers show up on Fox.
