Logo for 770 Radio K 770 Radio K (KUOM), "Real College Radio," is a college radio station operated by the University of Minnesota Twin Cities.
Because of this, the station is operated by the university's College of Continuing Education, but receives funding from a number of sources including donations from the public.

 Radio K - Minnewiki
KUOM, more commonly known as Radio K, is an influential college radio station from the University of Minnesota.
KUOM has a long history, and was the first station in Minnesota to receive a broadcast license, on January 13, 1922.
WLB and KUOM broadcast a large amount of educational programming, but changed to a college music format on October 1, 1993 due to a merger with the U of M's student radio station WMMR.

 U prof, 92, remembered for public broadcasting - Minnesota Daily
For 40 years under Paulu, the University's noncommercial radio station - KUOM, formerly known as WLB - filled the airwaves with programming for adults and children.
Paulu, considered a public broadcasting pioneer, won the Fulbright Scholarship five times and was internationally recognized for his contributions to comparative broadcasting research, in particular for his work studying British public broadcasting and Eastern European broadcast policies during the Cold War.
Paulu hired Walker as KUOM's chief announcer in 1955.

I worked there as an engineer from the fall of 1968 to the spring of 1969 usually working from sign on at 10 am (?) until noon.
It was one of the better jobs I had while going to the University as I usually got out of an early geology class in Pillsbury Hall and took the short walk to the basement studios of KUOM in a hall I can picture but not remember its name.
I started at KUOM in September 1963 and departed in the spring of 68.

The new "audience service criterion" adopted by the CPB is one of those moves that is supposed to promote "self-sufficiency" among public broadcasters as Congress moves to cut off federal support altogether.
With its well-developed, well-heeled support network, MPR is in better shape to withstand federal defunding than most operations--the $2.3 million they received for fiscal year '96 amounts to 12 percent of their budget, versus, say, the 20 percent that CPB funding represents in KUOM's budget.
And though MPR is expecting CPB budget cuts like everyone else, their future eligibility is not in question.
