Tombs of Maat-ka-Ra Hatshepsut   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-09)
The new tomb (KV20) for the king was built in the Valley of Kings where she probably took over the tomb built for her father and extended it for a double burial - for herself and her beloved father, Thutmosis I. The Rock Tomb
KV20 is the longest and deepest tomb and - apart from some private tombs in the Valley of Kings - probably the most unusual.
After his analyses KV20 had been started as tomb for Thutmosis I and was extended by Hatshepsut for a joint burial with her beloved father.

KV20, The Tomb of Hatshepsut and Tuthmosis I
Tomb KV20 in the Valley of the Kings on the West Bank at Luxor (ancient Thebes) is believed by many Egyptologists to have been the original Tomb of Tuthmosis I, thought it seems that his famous daughter, Hatshepsut was also interred there as well.

Thutmose had a Commoner (i.e., non-noble) father and mother, Semiseneb, but rose through the ranks of the military to become one of the most prominent commanders under the reign of his predecessor Amenhotep I.

Hatshepsut was buried in KV20 in the Valley of the Kings at Thebes, but it is her Mortuary Temple at Deir el Bahri that is her most famous monument, despite the best efforts of her stepson Thutmoses III to destroy all memory of her.
Her rule was so controversial that it went unrecorded by many historians, and did not figure in the carved King List of Abydos.

However, when Hatshepsut planned to be buried together with her father, Thutmosis I, she left the sarcophagus for him and it was completely recut for him.
This is the case for every sarcophagus except the two found in KV20.
Both, that of Hatshepsut (sarcophagus "D") and that of Thutmosis I had been mounted facing south with their heads ends, and accordingly all other sides were erroneously facing to the opposite direction.

Such a secret construction may have protected the tomb from grave-robbers, but not from Hatsheput's her own nephew.
Even the location of Hatsheput's mummy is unknown despite the fact that her tomb KV20 containing her sarcophagus (stone coffin) has been discovered.

 EgyptSites - Hatshepsut
The female pharaoh chose to site her temple in a valley sacred to the Theban Goddess of the West, but more importantly it was on a direct axis with Karnak Temple of Amun on the east bank.
Also, only a short distance on the other side of the mountain behind the temple, was the tomb which Hatshepsut had constructed for herself in the Valley of the Kings (KV20).
The Temple of Hatshepsut was built on three terraced levels, with a causeway leading down to her Valley Temple (now lost) which would have been connected to the River Nile by a canal.

Thuthmose's burial is an interesting one in that he was originally interred in KV20 (left), but after the reign of his daughter Hatshepsut he was reburied in KV38.
Even then, however, he could not find rest, as his mummy was once again moved to DB320 during the Third Intermediate Period.

 Thutmose I
The difference of opinion between Carter and John Romer as to what happened between KV20 and KV 38 makes Romer the winner.
That last phrase seems intriguing, but the mummy of Thutmose I itself, is still advanced, even though also questioned, as his.
If David was Thutmose I he would have had, in the eyes of the Egyptian priesthood, rights to his own tomb and we should not be surprised that a tomb was made for him (KV20), in which was also found his name on a foundation stone.

When she was the Queen of Tuthmosis II, Hatshepsut had a tomb built over 200 feet up the side of a cliff.
She never used it, opting instead to join her father Tuthmosis I in his tomb, KV20 ("the 20th tomb in the Valley of the Kings") which faced her mortuary temple.
When Howard Carter (the guy who found King Tut's tomb) discovered KV20 in 1903, it had already been robbed.

In Latvian there is however another homophonic word and that is PEREKlis (origin of the Greek name Pericles) =BARAK and that word means "roost of a bird", and that is why the name hieroglyph of Thutmosis, who is BARAK, is a bird on a roost PEREKlis, a word also found in Akkadian by the way.
Hence, there is little doubt that tomb KV38 in its astronomically intentional high roost in the Valley of Kings was in fact the original tomb of Barak (Thutmosis I) and that John Romers' dating of KV38 after KV20 is simply wrong.
Rather, after Barak, Deborah's father passed away, she became the regent and decided to make her own tomb KV20, bringing her beloved father down from tomb KV38 to join her at some point.
