Ion channel Literature - Conformational changes in a mammalian voltage-dependent potassium channel inactivation ...   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-13)
Using Fourier transform infrared and circular dichroism spectroscopy, we have investigated the structure of synthetic Kv3.4 channel ball peptide, in a range of environments relevant to the function of the ball domain.
Oxidation of the Kv3.4 ball peptide facilitates formation of a disulfide bond between Cys6 and Cys24 and adoption of a partial beta-sheet structure in aqueous solution; the tendency of the oxidized ball peptide to adopt beta-sheet is generally greater than that of the reduced ball peptide in a given environment.
The results suggest that the Kv3.4 ball domain undergoes a conformational change during channel inactivation and may implicate a novel regulatory role for intramolecular disulfide bond formation in the Kv3.4 ball domain in vivo.

Ion channel Literature - Surface Charges of K channels. Effects of strontium on five cloned channels expressed in ...   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-13)
The effects of strontium (Sr2+; 7-50 mM) on five different cloned rat K channels (Kv1.1, Kv1.5, Kv1.6, Kv2.1, and Kv3.4), expressed in oocytes of Xenopus laevis, were investigated with a two-electrode voltage clamp technique.
The main effect was a shift of the Gk(V) curve along the potential axis, different in size for the different channels.
The estimated charge densities ranged from -0.37 (Kv1.1) to -0.11 (Kv3.4) e nm-2 and showed good correlation with the total net charge of the extracellularly located amino acid residues of the channel as well as with the charge of a specific region (the loop between the S5 segment and the pore forming segment).

KV34 - Tomb of Tuthmosis III
The king's mummy was found among other mummies of kings in the cache DB320 in Deir el-Bahari.

Amduat - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In fact, this is a prime purpose of the Amduat: to provide the names of these creatures to the spirit of the dead pharaoh, so he can call upon them for aid or use their name to defeat them.
The earliest complete version of the Amduat is found in KV34, the tomb of Thutmose III in the Valley of the Kings.

The Ancient Egypt Site - The Valley of the Kings
Because both its layout and decoration both point strongly to a royal tomb, and because it architecturally fits between KV38 and KV34, it has sometimes been credited to Thutmosis II.
The foundation deposits, however, seem to point to this tomb being made for queen Meriyetre Hatshepsut, one of the wives of Thutmosis III.
Only the burial chamber is decorated, mostly with the same motives as KV34.

The kheker frieze art work in this picture corresponds to that in vogue in the days of Pharaoh Thutmose III in a chapel of this king at Deir el Bahari and revived during Greek times in Egypt.
Khekers with splayed tops were found in the tombs of Thutmose I (KV38), Thutmose III (in the well shaft of KV34) and Amenhotep III (KV35).
The same pointed khekers found in the chapel were also found in KV42 and are being used to help in dating that tomb.

The heiroglyphic inscription shows a clear cartouche with his throne name, a well defined Sphinx (the solar-form of Ra-Horus of the Horizon), Uraeus (divine protectoress of the phaeaoh) and, quite interestingly, it also names him as 'King of Lower Egypt and (of) monuments'.
