Loret found these mummies neatly arranged but more than half naked with their bandages lying in tatters all around them, whereas the nine mummies in the side- room appeared, for the most part, to be wrapped up the way the restorers of the 21st Dynasty had left them.
KV35 presumably remained re-sealed until Gaston Maspero, another Frenchman who had taken Loret's place as director of the Service des Antiquities, came to remove some of the mummies in 1901.
Because the cadavers and their containers were lined up in such close proximity in their side-chamber, [3] the Egyptologist wrote that he decided to take down a wall of stones that had partly sealed the doorway and to have the mummies and receptacles carried into the "grande salle" of the tomb.

  Where's Nefertiti?
The mummy in question was found in 1898 in a sidechamber in the tomb of Amenhotep II, which is designated KV35 in the numbering system for the Valley of the Kings.
In another sideroom were nine royal mummies that had been taken from their original tombs and been rewrapped and moved to KV35 by 20th Dynasty priests.
Fletcher says that the wig she examined in Cairo is of a type known as "Nubian" that was favored by the royal women in Akhenaten's court, including Nefertiti.

The mummy of Queen Nefertiti, certainly a co-ruler of Ancient Egypt with her husband Pharaoh Akhenaten and aunt to the legendary boy King Tutankhamun, may have been found, archaeologists have announced.
Dr Joann Fletcher of the University of York in England and leader of the expedition, said her team may have unearthed Nefertiti from a secret chamber in tomb KV35 in Egypt's Valley of the Kings in Luxor.
The mummy on the left is that of Queen Tiy, the wife of Pharaoh Amenhotep III, father of Pharaoh Akhenaten and Pharaoh Smenkhare.

The Hindu : Searching for Nefertiti
An expert in mummification, specialising in the study of ancient Egyptian hair, Fletcher was drawn to the tomb by her identification of a forgotten Nubian style wig favoured by royal women in the XVIIth dynasty during the reign of Akhenaten.
Fletcher found other physical links to the late queen, including the clear impression of the tight-fitting brow-band she once wore, a double-pierced ear lobe, shaved head and physical damage echoing the attacks on her statues and other representations.
In February 2003, a team of scientists returned to KV35 and further studied the methods used to embalm the mummies, examined the mummies and discovered that the right arm is removed in one out of the three mummies, which is positioned in pharaonic style with its fingers still clutching a long-vanished royal sceptre.

The body, catalogued as "Mummy 61072", was found resting alongside the mummified bodies of another woman and a boy, in a side chamber of the tomb KV35.
Researchers were able to examine the mummy in the tomb, thus avoiding any potential interference or accidental damage during transport.
The various photos of the corpse are also expected to provide clues to the subject's state of health, and even the cause of death.

Researchers are now challenging the idea that one of the three mummies in KV35 is that of the Egyptian queen Nefertiti.
Joann Fletcher, a mummification specialist from the University of York in England, said in June there was a "strong possibility" her team had unearthed Nefertiti from a tomb in Egypt’s Valley of the Kings in Luxor.
If we assume that the older female is indeed Queen Tiye, and there is a considerable degree of evidence that suggests that assumption is reasonable, then it is clear that the two other individuals buried with her must have some connection to Queen Tiye.

During a dozen years of hot and dusty research, mum was the word.
Having recently accumulated firsthand scientific data to add to the corroborative evidence that she painstakingly mounted over the years, Fletcher has broken her cryptic silence.
She declares that the unwrapped, shaven-headed mummy in KV35 is indeed most likely to be Nefertiti, the stunningly beautiful and powerful 3,400-year-old royal who likely reigned as pharaoh after serving as queen, and whose death and final resting place were ages-old mysteries.

But in a culture that revered the dead, they may not have destroyed the remains.
Joann Fletcher, an Egyptologist from Yorkshire, this week told the Discovery channel that she and colleagues may - the stress is on the "may" - have found Nefertiti in a side chamber in a tomb known as KV35, in the Valley of the Kings.
KV35 had been used as a royal cache, and it had contained nine bodies, identified, wrapped, placed in coffins, and placed reverentially in a side chamber.

Priority to this identification is disputed by a certain Marianne Luban, who is thus equally in error in falsely identifying this mummy as Nefertiti, since the mummy is a male according to DNA evidence (En Route to the Truth by Mark Rose).

We also make here an aside on the only female Pharaoh: We agree with Donald P. Ryan that the reddish-blonde haired mummy of a woman found on the floor of Tomb 60 is Hatshepshut, together with her half-sister Neferura, the other female mummy found there.

Background Information on the Discovery of Nefertiti's Maybe-Mummy in KV35 in 1898
The mummy of Queen Nefertiti, King Tutankhamun's stepmother and the wife of the pharaoh Akhenaten and a ruler in her own right, was discovered in 1898 in a secret chamber of King Amenhotep II's tomb (KV35) in the Valley of the Kings by French archaeologist Victor Loret.

Scientists in Egypt say they may have discovered the mummy of Queen Nefertiti, one of the most famous figures of ancient Egypt.
A group of scientists believe that she is one of three mummies discovered in a secret chamber of a tomb known as KV35 in Egypt's Valley of the Kings in Luxor. The tomb was originally located and catalogued in 1898, but the mummies were sealed up and apparently forgotten, until scientists drilled through to the room.
Say Nefertiti was believed to be 30 at the time of her death and X-rays of the mummy found indicate a 16 year old girl.

I personally am not persuaded that Dr. Joann Fletcher and her team of specialists have made the case for their assertion that the mummy of Younger Lady (“Woman”) in KV35 is “probably” Nefertiti.
Whoever they are, the KV35 trio are undoubtedly royal (and now internationally famous) and deserve far better treatment and basic respect than to be left lying moldering on their dusty pallets in a small, pitch-dark side room in the Valley of the Kings.
As to the uproar resulting from the display, however brief, of the famous Berlin bust of Nefertiti on a modern “nude” statue expressly made for that purpose, I can only wonder why — in the wake of the recent controversial KV55 coffin matter and ultimate outcome in Egypt’s favor — the Egyptian Museum in
