Zamboanga Sibugay was virtually baptized and named by the flowing waters of the river that is the landmark of the province.
Eventually, the river came to be known as Sibugay and later on the same name was given to a bay and the new province through whose towns the river ebbed and flowed.

ZAMBOANGA: THE WORLD IS SIBUGAY'S OYSTER
This is not surprising since the Kabasalan municipality is known as the home of the country’s "most delicious, juiciest, meatiest and biggest oysters." Residents claim that their talaba can grow as long as 12 inches in length.
According to Zamboanga Sibugay’s information officer Debbie Balingcos, in a complete turnaround from its former image of being a danger zone, Sibugay has been declared as "the most peaceful province in the Philippines" according to the Philippine National Police for having the lowest crime rate in the country.
Sibugay Gov. George Hoffer is also leading the province in developing 1,000 hectares given by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources as an integrated livestock and eco-tourism park.

We should not go along with the argument exposed by an arrogant constabulary officer of over a decade ago who argued that (because he is a Filipino) he has the right to lease hundreds of hectares of log-over land at Bunguiao and steal all the uncut trees in the area in the name of reforestation.
Several foreigners in Zamboanga have availed of this convoluted reasoning to exploit local resources, taking advantage of their positions in government or of those they know in government to corner contracts, properties that, by right of ascendancy, should be for the priority of local residence or governance.
Anyway, while officials from Zambaonga del Norte and Zamboanga del Sur were trying to gobble up properties of old Zamboanga City upon the creation of the two provinces, there were also other agencies that entered the picture and managed to secure titles to properties right in the heart of the city.
