The family of Mitsuo Kagawa, a Beppu University professor emeritus who committed suicide in March, filed the, suit with the Oita District Court against Bungeishunju Ltd., Seigo Kimata, Shukan Bunshun's chief editor, and the reporter who wrote the article, seeking compensation and a published apology for defamation.
Kagawa committed suicide on March 9 in his home in the town of Hinode, Oita Prefecture, leaving a note saying that his death was to protest the allegations.
Hiroshi Kagawa, the eldest son of the scholar, said the family is trying to restore the father's honor.

The proportion of inhabitants to the square mile for the island is 176; in the Prefecture of Kagawa it rises to 418, a higher figure than in any other prefecture of Japan.
Shikoku is the territorial district of the eleventh division of the army; the bulk of the troops are quartered at Marugame and Zentsuji (Kagawa-Ken); but in the three other provincial capitals there is a regiment of about 1500 men.
The Prefecture-Apostolic of Shi-koku was established by a Decree of Pius X, 28 Feb., 1904, and its administration given to the Spanish Dominicans of the Province of Smo.

TAKAMATSU -- A Kagawa University professor well known for his consultations on affairs of the heart has been arrested for molesting one of his patients in the name of "treatment," prosecutors said.
Takamatsu District Public Prosecutors Office investigators allege that Iwatsuki touched the woman's breast while ostensibly giving her treatment at his home in Takamatsu on April 27 and 28, 2002.
The woman filed a complaint against the professor with police in May that year, and the police sent documents on him to prosecutors in March 2003.

-- District and high courts across Japan sentenced a record 30 people to death this year, while 56 death-row inmates did not appeal their sentences or lost appeals as of Monday, according to Kyodo News calculations based on court data.
Meanwhile, a suprapartisan group of lawmakers are calling for an end to executions and for the introduction of life imprisonment without parole in place of the death penalty.
Mamoru Takuma, 40, who withdrew an appeal filed by his defense team in September at the Osaka District Court, is one of two death-row inmates who did not appeal or lost an appeal this year.

The reports published between January and March 2001 accused Kagawa, then an archaeologist at a university in Oita Prefecture, of falsely unearthing objects at Hijiridaki cave in Honjo in 1962.
The judge said Kagawa was interviewed only once and there was no further investigation to support the claim that he was involved in the alleged fabrication.

The situation is this: I will have to have my level 2 students with level 1 students in the same classroom at the same time next semester due to the small size of my level 2 class.
The highschool (a public one) and its school district only see the number of students, not the quality of education, to determine how many classes that teachers can have.
What I can do to separate level 2 and level 1 classes is to attract money from outside sources because the school and the district will not pay for me for this extra third class.
