The family of Mitsuo Kagawa, a Beppu University professor emeritus who committed suicide in March, filed the, suit with the Oita District Court against Bungeishunju Ltd., Seigo Kimata, Shukan Bunshun's chief editor, and the reporter who wrote the article, seeking compensation and a published apology for defamation.
Kagawa committed suicide on March 9 in his home in the town of Hinode, Oita Prefecture, leaving a note saying that his death was to protest the allegations.
Hiroshi Kagawa, the eldest son of the scholar, said the family is trying to restore the father's honor.

Shikoku is the territorial district of the eleventh division of the army; the bulk of the troops are quartered at Marugame and Zentsuji (Kagawa-Ken); but in the three other provincial capitals there is a regiment of about 1500 men.
The Prefecture-Apostolic of Shi-koku was established by a Decree of Pius X, 28 Feb., 1904, and its administration given to the Spanish Dominicans of the Province of Smo.

 Report on Cancer Detection Activities Coordinated and Provided by Baylor Students
In spring 1994 students at Baylor University School of Nursing began planning women's health services as part of the comprehensive district nursing care delivered to residents living in a low-income and ethnically diverse (primarily Southeast Asian and Hispanic) area of East Dallas.
The first cancer-related services were provided in spring 1995 and included mammograms, individualized breast self-exam teaching, home follow-up on the mammography results and BSE teaching, and, when necessary, assistance obtaining additional screening.
Future plans include Saturday mammograms for women who work on weekdays, increased background cancer teaching, cancer risk assessments, education on the major signs and symptoms of cancer, education on risk reduction and prevention (especially cigarette smoking), and increasing the number of women receiving Pap smears.

The Oita District Court had ordered Bungeishunju to pay 6.6 million yen in damages and issue an apology to Kagawa's family.
The reports published between January and March 2001 accused Kagawa, then an archaeologist at a university in Oita Prefecture, of falsely unearthing objects at Hijiridaki cave in Honjo in 1962.
The judge said Kagawa was interviewed only once and there was no further investigation to support the claim that he was involved in the alleged fabrication.

The Lotus Band is comprised of Lindsay Ogino and Allison Haraguchi on vocals and percussion, Amy Sakaue on alto and soprano sax, Kyle Kagawa on guitar, Kevin Hata on guitar, flute and keyboard, Brandon Leong on keyboard and percussion and Kiyoshi Earley on taiko drums and percussion.
Following that, the audience was treated to the sophisticated pop ballad "Reflections," definitely one of the highlights of the set, which featured wonderful vocal performances by both Lindsay and Allison.
Additional pressure was provided by knowing that Lotus would be a featured act at a District function, with members from all the Higashi temples in America, as well as representatives from the Headquarters in Japan.
