The Town of Gravenhurst includes a large area of the District of Muskoka, known to Ontarians as "cottage country." The town centre borders on two lakes: Lake Muskoka, which is the largest lake in the Region, and Gull Lake, a smaller cottage-bordered lake.
Another lake, Kahshe Lake, is situated ten kilometres south of the town.
Gravenhurst also declares itself the "Gateway to the Muskoka Lakes" and has a large gate bearing this message hanging over Muskoka District Road 169, the main road leading into town from Highway 11.

It was so easy to manage being as small as it was, the steering wheel and throttle/gearshift on the side made the boat handle like any large boat and I was able to explore any part of Kahshe Lake.
The top speed with the 10 HP motor was around 20 mph, plenty fast enough to seem speedy without being dangerous or making the exploring too brief.

A recent listing of assessment increases by municipalities shows clearly that waterfront values across Ontario are rising much faster than non-waterfront, causing a widespread shift of tax onto waterfront property owners.
In the past few months, associations have joined WRAFT from all over Ontario, from Lake of the Woods in northwestern Ontario down to the Bruce Peninsula and across Parry Sound-Muskoka and central Ontario eastward to the Quebec border.
Founded by the Muskoka Lakes Association, Township of Muskoka Lakes Ratepayers' Association, Lake of Bays Association and the Federation of Ontario Cottagers Associations, WRAFT works to halt any unfair shift of tax onto waterfront, find ways to mitigate rising property taxes and fight for property tax reform.

The collaborative Lake Management Planning (LMP) Program, organized by the Friends of the Tay Watershed, Otty Lake, Rideau Valley Conservation Authority, and Tay Valley Township, provides information and guidance to all lake groups in Tay Valley Township and the Tay River Watershed interested in developing lake management plans.
The majority of funding was granted through the Ontario Trillium Foundation ($96,000) and will allow the Lake Management Planning Program to assist in the development of three finalized lake management plans over the next three years, in addition to providing lake management planning information to all interested lakes.

The headwaters for the Muskoka River are found in Algonquin Park, and flow southwesterly for a distance of about 210 km to release into Lake Muskoka before it continues into Georgian Bay through the Moon and Musquash Rivers.
It flows from Lake Simcoe and Lake Couchiching to Georgian Bay at Port Severn.
Georgian Bay is a large bay in Lake Huron and recieves all the water from the watersheds in Muskoka.
