Kahurangi National Park is a National Park in the northwest of the South Island of New Zealand.
Kahurangi Point, regarded as the boundary between the West Coast and Tasman/Nelson regions, is located in the park, as are the Heaphy Track and Mount Owen.
The park is administered by the Department of Conservation.

 New Zealand Lighthouses
Sibling of the Waipapa Point Light on South Island, completed the same year; these two lighthouses, thought to have been designed by John Blackett, were the last two wood lighthouses built in New Zealand in the 1800s.
The lighthouse marks the easternmost point of New Zealand; it is claimed (plausibly) that this lighthouse, not far west of the International Date Line, is the first lighthouse to see the sunrise of a new day.
Waipapa Point, scene of a terrible shipwreck in 1881, is the eastern entrance to Foveaux Strait, the passage between South Island and Stewart Island.

Views of the lighthouse are available from the lookout point at Bluff or drive up Bluff Hill for a great 360 degree view of the Bluff Harbour and Dog Island.
Take you to both Piller Point and Farewell Spit lighthouses, as well as narrative and bird/nature watching.
A good way to see both Nugget Point and Waipapa Point lighthouses is to follow the "Southern Scenic Route" and "Heritage Trails" from Balclutha to Invercargill through the Catlins area.

At one point the Heaphy Track turns fl where it crosses a coal seam and then, 100 m or so above the Lewis Hut, the first nikau palms appear and slowly thicken over the last kilometres of the journey to the coast.

Fire has replaced much of the forest on flatter tablelands, intensifying the pakihi-like character of the vegetation by encouraging the growth of manuka and a distinctive community of associates such as Epacris pauciflora, through which more diverse forest vegetation eventually develops.

A correlation equation was established which accounted for 71% of the variance in the non-tidal flow.

Nelson MP Nick Smith is calling for iwi to withdraw claims to "every square inch of beach and sea" in the Nelson region, saying they are causing serious harm to race relations.
Dr Smith said answers to parliamentary questions obtained on Thursday showed that iwi claims covered 476km of coastline between Cape Soucis northeast of Nelson and Kahurangi Point on the West Coast.
Farewell Spit Tours operator Paddy Gillooly said there was no point "getting bothered" about the extent of iwi claims at this stage.

After having done so much solo tramping, going on a relaxed two-day trip with another tramper was a welcome change.
The views were magnificent from the summit of Mount Owen, as the highest point in Kahurangi National Park, and my favorite part was spending an afternoon exploring the landscape, finding ways through the mazes of miniature tablelands and slot canyons, and taking the usual “hero shots,” including an exact duplication of our map's cover photo.
But perhaps what I will remember the longest are Jason's and my conversations regarding faith and our belief systems.
