Kaiapoi, 'the river town of North Canterbury', is in close proximity to the coast, the Waimakariri River, Christchurch, and derives much character from its position on the Kaiapoi River.
Kaiapoi, meaning 'food depot', has derived its name from the historic pa of Ngai Tahu, which was located between the Waikuku and Woodend Townships.
Southern Grain Distillery, located in the centre of Kaiapoi, is available to groups for tours of the distillery which are completed with a tasting of the many fine spirits and liqueurs.
