 Whangarei Northern Advocate
The move to pull Kaipara ratepayers out of the stadium-funding loop came at a council meeting in Dargaville on Wednesday while a prospective submission on the Northland Regional Council (NRC) draft annual plan was being considered.
Questioning whether Kaipara ratepayers were fully aware of this, Mr Neal said a road sign near Whangarei Hospital stated it was 55km by road to Dargaville and he claimed most people would rely on this type of information to determine whether they were within the higher rating area.
Cr Alspach then proposed Kaipara take a neutral stand on the proposed stadium, oppose funding its ongoing operational costs, declare the proposed rating regime with concentric circles impractical and call for the whole of the Kaipara district to be included in the lower rating area.

For a while, it seemed that the level of compensation asked for by the settlers, for either loss of land, frontage, or saleability, would be used as an excuse by the government not to proceed.
Further controversy dogged the proposed Kaipara Railway when it was suggested that the line from Newmarket follow a route via Ponsonby and Richmond, through to the Whau, rather than via Mt Albert.

The Maori Law Review - May 2000
In the Tauranga Moana inquiry district, the claimants in Wai 664, the Waitaha Tribal Estate claim, sought an extension of the eastern boundary of the inquiry district to the Waiari River (to the east of Te Puke), which was said to be the south-eastern boundary of the claimants’ rohe.
The Tribunal had based the inquiry district on the 19th century confiscation line (the eastern boundary of each extended to Papamoa), and this, the claimants argued, was "offensive and artificial".
The tribunal recognised that Waitaha, along with claimants elsewhere, would have to present their claims partly in one inquiry district and partly in another but it did not accept that that would cause the claimants any prejudice "so long as each tribunal is fully informed of relevant circumstances, and claims are placed in adequate context".
