The CJ-3B was produced until 1968 with a total of 155,494 produced, although the design was licensed to a number of international manufacturers, including Mitsubishi of Japan and Mahindra of India.
In 1965, Kaiser bought the casting rights to the Buick 225 in³ V6 Dauntless and the CJ-5 and CJ-6 got a new engine with 155 hp supplementing the Willys Hurricane engine.
The company was sold to American Motors in 1970, and the GM engine was retired after the 1971 model year.

The odd fire engine uses a distributor cap with equal spaces between the plugs on the distributor cap and the even fire engine has unequal spaces between the plugs on the distributor cap.
This engine has the same external dimensions as the 231 and can be told from the 231 by the 4.1L cast in the drivers side rear instead of 3.8L.
Keeping these engines cool is a bit more challenging than the 3.8L, but it is nice to have the extra displacement.

The Buick engine after 1979 is referred to as having "late model" heads and intake manifolds and other items manufactured for the earlier odd-fire models do not fit the later models after 1979.
The odd-fire engines have a stronger crankshaft than even-fire Buick engines due to the fact that the even-fire engines redesigned the crankshaft journals (split them) in order to run in an even-fire mode--this weakened the crank considerably.
Within a short time after the engineers left Salt Lake City it was announced the Kaiser Jeep Corp. had purchased the rights to manufacture the Buick 225 V6 engine and shortly after that CJ5's and Jeepsters were being offered to the public with a V6 option (1965 for the 1966 model year).

As a sidenote, the Buick Small Block 350 V8 - an engine that is very related to the V6 - was used successfully in FSJ Jeeps from 1968 until 1971.
This engine is related to the 90 Degree V6 in certain concepts and technologies only - Buick engineers taking what they had learned about the V6 and incorporating it into an entirely new design of engine.
Engines made by Chevy have their own engine to bellhousing bolt pattern and while they interchange widely on Chevy engines, they will not fit other engines in the GM family.

The incredible 4.0L engine was developed for the XJ model and introduced in 1987, but it's heritage can clearly be found in the 258.

While the Jeep Universal engine became Dauntless in late 1965, the Jeep Wagoneer and Gladiator lines received a power boost from a new optional Vigilante V-8, that provided 327 cubic inches and 250 horsepower of "zesty zip" to meet every highway and off-highway driving situation.
The optional 320-cubic-inch Vigilante V-8 engine was replaced by the 350-cubic-inch Dauntless V-8 engine in both the Wagoneer and Gladiator models.

The full size Jeeps were introduced by Kaiser Jeep for the 1963 model year to replace the Willys truck and Utility wagon lines.
Engines available over the years included a 230 OHC six cylinder, 232 and 258 OHV six cylinders and 327, 350,304, 360 and 401 OHV eight cylinders.
Kaiser Jeep followed in 1970 with a very limited production version called the Renegade I. This package included eight inch steel wheels with 6.70-15 4-ply tires, swing-away spare tire carrier, rollbar, ammeter and oil gauge and came in Renegade purple or Lime green with a "Renegade" accessory racing stripe.

Engine: The engine number was located at the front of the engine block on the water pump boss.
Because there is little difference between the engine performance at idle with #3 wire on or off, it is obvious that, while the spark plug may be firing in air, it is not firing hot enough (or what is more probable regularly enough) to ignite the mixture in that cylinder.
The engine codes seem to indicate that the first letter is the engine year, while the second letter is the comp ratio (9.0-1).

I am no expert, but I believe '71 was the last year for the buick 350 in full-sized jeeps.
Kaiser did put that motor in trucks, though.
The 350 Buick was the Dauntless, the 327 Rambler was the Vigilante.

Since a NEW jeep was around $1500.00, Kaiser didn't have the profit built into the jeep which would allow them to pay royalty for the engine.
People were doing that long befor Kaiser decided to do it and with ALOT of different motors.As it turned out,that motor worked best for many reasons,and was the most popular conversion being done at the time.as forbumpers I've no idea.Mine are 3/16 thick tube,capped and serve as air tanks.
I think that the most important aspect of this arguement is that, in order to do it right, an engine swap to a small block requires not only the engine but the entire drive train.

The "Dauntless" Buick 225 V6 was an optional engine in the late 60s.
The T-90 3 speed was the standard transmission for the Jeepster with the F-Head engine and it's close brother, the T-86 3 speed was used with the Dauntless V6.
The T-14 replaced the T-86 with the 6 cylinder engines and later the beefy T-15 was used with CJ-5 with the 304.
