The grand lighthouse, 216 ft. high, rises beside the new docks on the island of Wollin, on the other side of the narrow Swine.
In 1897 the river continuation of the Kaiserfahrt was opened to navigation, and, further, the waterway between the Haff and the Baltic was deepened to 24 ft. in 'goo-19o1 and in other ways improved.
The connexion between Swinemunde and Stettin is kept open in winter by ice breakers.

In 1897 the river was dammed and deepened, and the Kaiserfahrt was dug, which connected the Swine with the Szczecin harbour, and as such gained import as a direct waterway to the industrial city of Szczecin.

The Swina (Pomeranian: Swina, German: Swine, Polish: Świna) is a central strait, river or a branch of the Oder River out of three straits connecting the Oder Lagoon with the Bay of Pomerania of the Baltic Sea, between the islands of Usedom and Wolin.
Form 1874 to 1880 the river was dammed and deepened, and the Kaiserfahrt (Piast canal) was dug, which connected the northern part of the Swina more directly with the Oder Lagoon and the harbor of Stettin (Szczecin), and as such gained import as a direct waterway to the industrial city.
