  Kaiten Memorial Museum
The Kaiten Memorial Museum opened in 1968 at the site of the original kaiten base on Otsushima Island, and the museum facilities were renovated in 1998.
The reason for the kaiten, in the words of one pilot who later died in training, are read by the narrator, "There was no other way but to use this type of weapon to counter imminent defeat.
However, the film has a man, who trained as a kaiten pilot, explaining that the kaiten was the "most efficient" weapon since the manned torpedo was more successful than the suicide air attacks that only hit one in ten targets.

 Kamikaze Submarine
The Japanese word "kaiten" literally means "sky change," with the implication that the Navy hoped this new weapon would bring about a radical reversal in the course of the war when Japan was suffering continuing losses.
The Naval General Staff approved the development of the kaiten in February 1944 on the condition it not be used as a suicide weapon.
In order that kaiten pilots would not have a tendency to look behind them as they approached their final mission, only men with a minimum of family responsibilities were selected out of the many young Navy men who volunteered.

Kaiten - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Kaiten (Japanese:回天, translated "Change the World" or "Reverse the Destiny") was a torpedo modified as a suicide weapon, and used by the Imperial Japanese Navy in the final stages of the Second World War.
The only sinkings achieved by kaiten attacks were the tanker USS Mississinewa on November 20, 1944, and the USS Underhill on July 24, 1945.
All kaitens were designed to be launched from either the deck of a surface ship or the deck of a submerged submarine.

 Kaiten Suicide Submarines
The kaiten was aptly described by Theodore Cook as "not so much a ship as an insertion of a human being into a very large torpedo." The guts of the beast was a standard Type-93 24" torpedo, with the mid-section elongated to create the pilot's space.
The kaitens would close to tactical range, come to periscope depth for a brief re-targeting at around 1000 meters, make course corrections, and then dive and run at the calculated position of the target until a hit was obtained.
It is thought that many kaiten pilots, having reached the end of their fuel, and finding themselves alone in the wide expanse of the open ocean, probably self-detonated rather than face the lingering deaths that otherwise awaited them.

 USS Bowfin - Kaiten
The design of the Japanese Kaiten was originally based on the highly successful surfaced-launched Type 93 "Long Lance" torpedo.
An escape hatch was not provided for Kaiten built late in the war, and in any case, no pilot is known to have attempted to escape from his speeding torpedo as it approached its target.
Kaiten were carried piggyback aboard mother submarines, and possibly aboard a few surface ships adapted for that purpose.

mi-reporter.com - Cuisine on a conveyor belt at Blue C Sushi - Island entrepreneur opens `kaiten' sushi restaurant   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-07)
Kaiten sushi restaurants were the brainchild of Yoshiaki Shiraishi, who developed the idea in 1958 after watching beer bottles being filled and capped on a conveyor belt.
But Allard describes the ambiance of those kaitens as ``cafeteria-like.'' Though they are successful, Allard said they don't have the sparkling, fun environment he feels he's created at Blue C. ``We want the food to make you happy, the music to make you happy, the environment to make you happy,'' said Allard.
Each kaiten sushi restaurant that Allard and his co-founders open will have a mural painted by artists that depicts the local scenes and some of the unique landmarks that the town possesses.

 Japanese Kaiten Suicide Submarine
The Kaiten was a modified Long Lance Torpedo (with provision for one crew member) launched from a mother sub which carried up to 6 Kaitens for Kamikaze suicide attacks.
It was a collision with a Kaiten that caused the destruction of Destroyer Escort (the USS Underhill DE-682) like my dad's (the USS Bangust DE-739), the 3300lb warhead blowing the ship in two.
This MK II Kaiten was 55' long by 4'6" in diameter and had a top speed of 40 knots with a range of 83 miles at 20 knots.

Japanese Navy Ship Types--Kaiten type Human Torpedoes
"Kaiten" type human torpedoes were the first Japanese "Special Attack" weapons, vehicles whose operational use involved the certain death of the crew, though their first successful employment followed that of the "Kamikaze" suicide aircraft by about a month.
The "Kaiten's " immense 3400-pound explosive warhead, more than three times the size of the Type 93 torpedo's original (and very effective) warhead, was capable of producing catastrophic damage in the target ship.
On 20 November 1944, a submarine-launched "Kaiten" penetrated the U.S. anchorage at Ulithi, in the Caroline Islands, and sank the oiler USS Mississinewa (AO-59).

Kaiten could theoretically copied by another ninja since it is just chakra being expelled from the body and spinning, just never used effectively.
Kaiten is a technique in which a set amount of chakra is expelled simultaneously from every tenketsu in the body, coupled with a spin.
Kaiten builds upon the foundations of Jyuuken (absolute chakra control and tenketsus) and so a non-Hyuuga would need to study Jyuuken for months -- a style he would never be able to use very effectively -- for one move.

 Kaiten Information
During her brief conventional career,I-53 participated in operation "A-Go", being assigned a patrol area north of the Admiralty Islands, in May 1944.She was assigned sentry duty east of the Marianas, in mid-June 1944, and did not contribute to the Philippine Sea Battle.
Commander Oba (Etajima class of 1935), had previously commanded RO-105, RO-49, I-162, and latest of all, I-53.Under his command, I-53 took part in the second Kaiten mission, "Kongo." She was unable to launch any of the four kaitens she carried and was forced to return to Japan with her disappointed crew.
The Underhill also apparently rammed and sank at least one other of the attacking kaitens However, shortly thereafter, at 1515 hours her luck ran out and she was struck by a third suicide craft, which rammed home on the starboard bow just forward of Engine Room #1.The results were catastrophic.

 The BentProp Project
Of these five Kaitens, one hit the reef and exploded, another foundered outside the reef and was sunk by aircraft, and the USS Case, at the entrance to Mugai Channel, rammed a third.
While many feel the 'successful' Kaiten was from I-36, based on our observations of the location and orientation of the USS Mississinewa, the sinking is more consistent with an attack from an I-47-launched suicide sub.
Interestingly, his Kaiten was the only one to sink a US Navy vessel by itself; a subsequent attack in the Philippines on the USS Underhill damaged, but did not sink, that ship - it was later sunk by "friendly fire" due to the extensive damage incurred from that Kaiten.

CERT Incident Note IN-2001-13: "Kaiten" Malicious Code Installed by Exploiting Null Default Passwords in Microsoft SQL ...
Once the "Kaiten" code has begun execution on the victim system, it connects to an IRC server (on port 6667/tcp or 6669/tcp, according to reports received by the CERT/CC) to await further commands from the attacker.
With "Kaiten," ingress filtering of port 1433/tcp could prevent attackers outside of your network from scanning or infecting vulnerable MS-SQL servers in the local network that are not explicitly authorized to provide public SQL services.
In the case of "Kaiten," employing egress filtering on the standard IRC ports (6660-6669/tcp) at your network border can help prevent systems on your network from being controlled by remote attackers via IRC.
