Aquarium to bring snow to Osaka's children: Kaiyukan Aquarium, in Osaka's Minato Ward, is inviting people to a snow festival that features a field covered by natural snowflakes from Hyogo Prefecture today, Wednesday and Feb. 14 and 15.
The snow field, measuring 18 meters by 14 meters and set up in front of the Kaiyukan building, contains about 80 tons of snow that has been brought in from Hyogo's Yumura Onsen hot spring district and is open to all visitors.
There will also be a treasure-hunt game and a footbath using hot water from the Yumura Onsen, as well as a log-cutting competition for parents and children.

In the morning we checked out of the hotel and went to the Kaiyukan, but not before stopping by the internet cafe I wrote about yesterday for a quick update.
Anyhow, the Kaiyukan was about as I'd seen it last time - though it seems like their giant Japanese salamanders had died off or were on vacation or something.
Pity, those guys and the giant sunfish were the two things I was really looking forward to seeing again.

Kaiyukan is truly an amazing place; one begins at sea level and descends ever downward through the enormous tanks, ’til sharks and rays graze at waist-level and the aquarium’s "Main Creature"—a huge, gentle whale shark named Yu-Chan—circles above like a restless blue cloud.
Even the gift shop is amazing; I could have easily dropped a thousand bucks on Giant Spider Crab screen savers, stuffed whale sharks, and squid-shaped cutlery.
