On May 31, Mpadi Mamikamona Moko, a veterinarian at the MULENDA MBO farm outside of Kinshasa and a resident of the Masina district of Kinshasa, was beaten to death and thrown into the Ndjili river by men dressed in military uniforms.
There were many secret or unofficial detention centers in Kinshasa, some of which reportedly were run by the Office of the President (see Section 1.a.); there were several reports of secret jails on the premises of the presidential palace.

On the night of June 10, in the Masina district of Kinshasa, there were unconfirmed reports that soldiers forcibly entered the home of Reverend Placide Tshisumpa Tshiakatumba, president of the International Society for Human Rights (ISHR).

KINSHASA, 27 Nov 2002 (IRIN) - Democratic Republic of the Congo Health Minister Mashako Mamba warned on Tuesday that the capital, Kinshasa, was at risk from flooding by the River Congo during December 2002 and January 2003 due to expected rainfall.
A technical committee has been organised to warn people living along the river to be prepared to move in order to avert a catastrophe, and a evacuation plan has been developed.
Health ministry officials fear that between 1.5 million and two million people could be affected this time - not only by the waters, but also by outbreaks of malaria, as well as epidemics of cholera and typhoid that often result from unsanitary conditions during such emergencies.

Luaula told JED that the newspaper employees were each questioned about a news item that appeared on the front page of "La Tempête des Tropiques"'s 10 July edition (issue 2014).
In the story, the newspaper reported that "Kinshasa skirted disaster" on 8 July, in a confrontation between "civilians and soldiers that deteriorated into a violent battle" and led to "four deaths and major material damage" in Kinshasa/Kintambo's Jamaica neighbourhood.
It appeared on the front page of that day's newspaper, under the headline, "No deaths, but an injured soldier is transferred to [Kinshasa's] general hospital".
