The Shire of Kalamunda is located a 30 minutes' drive east of Perth, where the hills of the Darling Scarp meet the plains of the foothills.
Kalamunda offers visitors a variety of activities, from walking the Bibbulmun Track and travelling down the historic Zig Zag Scenic Drive, to the local history village which offers various activities for children.
Kalamunda has a large collection of public art, including various sculptures, ceramics works and the famous stained glass window which is the largest community built stained glass window in Australia.

It has been designed to be similar to the Appalachian Trail in the USA and runs from Kalamunda (a suburb in Perth) for 963 km to Albany (the largest and oldest town on the southern coast).
It is the second longest walking trail in Australia and proposals exist to extend the track further east along the coast, which could make it into the longest trail.
It was constructed by CALM (Conservation and Land Management) who are responsible for managing the forests and is maintained by both CALM and a very active 'Friends of the Bibbulmun Track' group.

The Western Australia Police Pipe Band was formed in 1966 and as a mark of respect to the then Commissioner Mr R.T. NAPIER, chose the Napier Tartan which it still wears today.
The Band originated as the junior band of the 11/44th Battalion of the City of Perth Regiment and in 1960 was incorporated as the National Youth Brass Band of Western Australia.
It is the oldest pipe band in Western Australia and amongst the oldest civilian bands in the southern hemisphere.
