However, the Arroyo administration says that Palawan is not entitled to anything at all, because the oil and gas fields in question—the single biggest investment in the country in history—are way outside the province’s territory.
The petitioners asked the court to bar the President and her concerned Cabinet members from pursuing this unconstitutional policy, which is detrimental to the national interest of the Philippines.

Our recent marine expedition to the Kalayaan indicates an over-fished reef system with much lower biomass of fish and macro-invertebrates compared to that of marine protected areas in the Bohol Sea and the Sulu Sea.
Another recent example is the sea cucumber exploitation in the Visayan Sea, which is fast leading to the exhaustion of the resource made worse by the inability of resource managers to control the rate of exploitation.
