Kaleidoscope (US band) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Kaleidoscope was an American psychedelic folk band who recorded 4 albums and several singles for Epic between 1966 and 1970.
Between them, they played a wide range of stringed instruments and world-music influences, deployed in their early psychedelic songs such as Egyptian Gardens and Pulsating Dream and then in longer pieces such as Taxim, which they performed live at the 1967 Berkeley Folk Festival.
They were also unusual among rock bands in being able and willing to feature music by Cab Calloway and Duke Ellington in their repertoire.

Kaleidoscope were unique, that impossibly rare and beautiful thing: the perfect psychedelic pop band, the true magical invocation of the spirit of the summer of love.
It's a magnificent album from the first quiet invitation to "relax your eyes" at the beginning of opener "Kaleidoscope" to the deluge of happy tears that is "The Sky Children", an eight minute fairy tale which ranks as the band's finest work, lyricist Peter Daltrey's masterpiece, and the most emotionally exhausting song I know.
The band's subsequent career is less happy: with no hit singles despite being forced to record commercial songs through gritted teeth, the record label lost interest, they changed their name to Fairfield Parlour and released another great album before self-destructing in defeat with a bunch of unreleased music behind them.
