In Kalemie, the Liaison office of the Independent Electoral Commission - set in the Tanganyika district headquarters - is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that the voting exercise scheduled for the 18th of December 2005 will go successfully and without major problems.
A visit to the local CEI office in Kalemie revealed that the office is working extra hard to achieve good results for the referendum in the district.
And CEI Kalemie is still to recover the equipment that was looted on the 26th of October this year, when the office was set on fire and an important number of registration kits were damaged.

People in the town of Kalemie, where at least one person, a child, was killed and five others wounded, when buildings collapsed during Monday's quake, said the minor tremors came at intervals of as long as six hours.
Kalemie, a town of some 300,000 inhabitants about 50 kilometers (30 miles) from the epicenter of the quake under Lake Tanganiyka, appeared to be the worst hit locality in the seven countries where the temblor was felt.
"The provisional casualty toll from the Kalemie area is one infant who died last night from injuries after the collapse of a house, two children wounded, one in serious condition, and two adults lightly injured," OCHA said in a statement.

The increased dissolved inorganic carbon in the south basin is indicative of the geological factors affecting water masses in the different sub-basins.
The Kalemie sub-basin wind-induced currents are controlled not only by regional wind patterns, but also largely by the Mahale Mountains offshore- inshore winds.
Turbidity should theoretically be higher in the south basin as opposed to the north because of the turbation of sediments and local upwelling.

Kasongo Banga, the FAO officer in charge of food security in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, said some 720 people faced shortages as a result of the rain-fed floods that started in early January.
Kalemie was already a food-insecure area due to a five-year civil war that ended in 2003 as well as ongoing sporadic fighting between the Mayi-Mayi militiamen and the Congolese army.
The lakeside port town of Kalemie is also threatened by the accumulation of sand from Lake Tanganyika, following massive waves caused by strong winds.
