Kalinga farmers produced 7.2 tons of hybrid rice per hectare between 2002 and 2003, providing proof that the government's hybrid rice program would put a stop to rice importation within a year, said Faustino Maslan, director of the Department of Agriculture in the Cordillera Administrative Region.
Kalinga is the largest rice-producing province in the Cordilleras.
The DA plans to increase hybrid rice areas in Kalinga to 9,000 hectares next year, Maslan said, because of the farmers' increased interest in the seeds.

CPA chairperson Joan Carling blamed Kalinga PNP Provincial Director Pedro Ramos for the ambush, and added that President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and the AFP-PNP should be held responsible for the death of Alyce and other victims of political killings.

While crossing the Chico River in Kalinga, the Filipino forces were fired at by the American soldiers who were only some 200 yards from the river banks.
The thick forest cover, the rugged mountain terrain, and the support of the tribal people folk, contributed to the intrepid party's march into Palanan, Isabela, on September 6, 1900, "to the accpmpaniment of band music and the roaring welcome of the local people," Scott said.

Kalinga men who killed two or more men had elaborate patterns applied to their arms and chests called biking, comprised of khaman ("head-axes"), ufug ("centipede scales") and bodies of the centipede (gayaman), which were protective and spiritually charged symbols.

TABUK, Kalinga -- The substantive collection of taxes last year in Kalinga and Apayao provinces is credited to the 10 percent expanded value-added tax (VAT) collection.
Daisy Quirino, revenue district officer of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), said the 15 percent increase or P18 million credited in their collection is part of the 10 percent e-VAT implemented in November last year aside from regular taxes paid to the BIR.
In November and December 2005 alone, P22 million was generated from 14 municipalities of Kalinga and Apayao provinces, including collections from two revenue sources.
