The Battle of Mohi, or Battle of the Sajó River, (on April 11, 1241) was the main battle between the Mongols and the Kingdom of Hungary during the Mongol invasion of Europe.
In 1223 the expanding Mongol Empire defeated an allied Russian-Cuman army at the Kalka river.
While the defeat of the Hungarian army at the Sajó river is most often described in a couple of sentences as an effortless rout by the Mongols of the Hungarian army, this is an oversimplification.
