  The Jewish Cemetery of Kalkara, Malta
Kalkara lies in the south-east side of the Grand Harbour area.
As one leaves the harbour, it is the third of four promontories, separated by creeks, opposite Valletta.
During the Turkish Ottoman siege of 1565, Kalkara formed part of the front line of fighting and is believed to have been used afterwards for the burial of Moslem dead.

A few days ago the fountain that used to be in the “Salvatur” garden near the Kalkara entrance was completely destroyed in another one of these vandalistic attacks.Unfortunately, this is not the first time that vandals have targeted this garden and in fact some of the statues that used to be present were stolen.

Kalkara became a parish in 1898 and the parish church was dedicated in 1821.

The latter represents the blue sea which Kalkara is endowed with since it has two inlets sprouting into the Grand Harbour of Malta.
The flame on the blue background symbolises the idea that Kalkara was a lime kiln, since in the extraction of lime, fire through a flame has to be used.

In 1984 the Villa was abandoned due to dangerous ceilings and the Trade School was moved to the West Wing.

In the Valley there are also people who at the moment are running a project to promote organic and biodynamic farming, by cultivating their land in the valley in an organic method.

Tracor (now BAE Systems) was selected as the preferred tenderer in December 1996 and has supplied MQM 107E unmanned aerial vehicles, Ground Control Stations as well as associated ground support equipment.
The Kalkara system is now operating in the East Australia Exercise Area off Jervis Bay on the east coast and from HMAS Stirling (Garden Island) on the west coast, and has been deployed to Woomera to support RAAF missile firings.

The Planning Authority yesterday took heed of requests made by Kalkara residents, environmental NGOs, the local council and the Green Party, and extended the consultation phase over the Kalkara Valley re-planning exercise to the 15 June, 2001.
During a press presentation yesterday, PA Chairman Chris Falzon explained that the re-planning exercise was intended to save more than half of the Kalkara valley from development.
He said that the whole valley had been earmarked for development ever since the 1960s.
