The Kalsubai temple at the top has tempted many of the trekkers to come to her way (Picture 5,6) the small temple of Devi Kalsubai at the top is legendary and receives many pilgrims.
Kalsubai with the height of 1646m is famous as one of the highest peaks in Maharashtra.

I planned to start with their first trek for february which was scheduled for Kalsubai Peak on the 12th and 13th feb. My earlier experience with a few easy treks made me more confident in to daring to explore something more adventurous.
Kalsubai is the highest peak in the sahyadri range in Maharashtra.
Bari which is border of Nasik and Ahmednagar district is the base for Kalsubai Peak.

A journey along the ancient trading route between Sopara (near Agasi) and the Saptagodavara (Pancavati and Nasik), followed the Vaitarna River to Igatpuri, which lies in a pass between the peaks of Tringalvadi and Kalsubai (the highest mountain of Maharastra).
The Saptagodavara is usually understood as the Godavari Delta, which opens beyond Rajamundry into the Bay of Bengal, where the Godavari has seven Gaumukhas, and the seven mouths of Godavari are known as:   Kasyapa, Atri, Gautama, Bharadvaja, Visvamitra, Jamadagni, and Vasistha.
  The first (in the south) springs from Kalsubai and Kulang; and the seventh (in the north) rises at the foot of Saptasringi (north of Vani) and nearby Goraknath.

We came back to Bhavli without any halt on the way.
At least 50 mountain tops including Kalsubai can be counted from Kulang.
From the top, we get nice views of Alang, Wilson dam, deep forest of Bhandardara, Ajoba and other such peaks near the south of Wilson dam.

The walls of this pass just out from the main range and hence command a magnificient view of the great bend in the sahyadri.
To the north one can have a view of Kalsubai, to the south Bhimashanker, to the north east is Harishchandragad and to the north west is Mahuli across the Kokan plains, with its cleft and shatered pinnacles.
To the southwest, behind Siddhagad are seen the level tops of Matheran.

My dissertation in Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, India involved chemo-stratigraphic and palaeo-magnetic study of alkaline dykes within the Deccan Traps near Nasik, India.
Both chemical signatures and palaeo-magnetic evidence showed that some of the dykes can be correlated with the oldest formation in the Deccan Trap Group, namely the Jawhar formation of the Kalsubai subgroup.
The purpose of my current research is to find out the precise timing of the different phases of Alleghanian deformation event in south-central Appalachian Mountains by dating zircon crystals from Alleghanian granites using high precision U-Pb dating technique.

We got an impression we havent made much progress.
Its can be compared to Kalsubai, where you think you are there but you realize after scaling heights that there is more on your plate.
We found our way to the village [ to the left side of the fort on the plateau ] and hired services of a local chap as a guide.
