 Seven brothels raided in Kamathipura
Twenty minor girls were rescued from seven brothels that were simultaneously raided in the Kamathipura area on Friday night.
According to the Act any person found trafficking a minor girl could be sentenced anything from seven years to life imprisonment, while a customer found with a minor girl could be charge with statutory rape.
The raid was conducted with the initiative of Additional Commissioner of Police (Central) Surendra Pandey, under whose jurisdiction Kamathipura lies.

MUMBAI, April 23: The Bombay High Court on Thursday ruled that court officials would pay a surprise visit to a home for rescued commercial sex workers, `Kasturba Sadan', to see for themselves the conditions that prevailed there.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice Y K Sabharwal and Justice S Radhakrishnan gave the ruling on a petition filed by a non-governmental organisation, `Prerna', which works with Kamathipura's commercial sex workers.
The city police's drive to rescue minor girls from prostitutes' dens in the city has focussed attention on the need to examine rehabilitation programmes, and Prerana's petition points out that all is not well in at least one of the rescue homes, `Kasturba Sadan' in Mankhurd.

NOVEMBER 4: The incidence of AIDS in Mumbai's red-light district is poised to rise exponentially during the Diwali season with a sudden 60 per cent drop in the supply in condoms over the last fortnight.
Condoms are distributed by the Maharashtra State Aids Control Society to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and two other intervention projects working in the red-light district to stem the spread of HIV among the high-risk population.
J V R Prasad Rao, National Aids Control Organisation project director, has written to the Indian Health Organisation, a voluntary organisation working stated that supply of condoms should be resumed immediately.
