Kameoka is among the 29 percent of the teachers at Weemes working on emergency permits, temporary teaching licenses issued to teachers who don't meet the state's mandated requirements for the profession, which include a bachelor's degree, graduate-level course work in pedagogy, a year of supervised student teaching and the passing of subject-matter exams.
The challenges faced by Kameoka and Feldman -- and, more important, by the children they teach -- are not unusual in Los Angeles, or in large urban districts in the rest of the state.
Some have taught before in private schools or in other contexts, but most, like Kameoka and Feldman, are learning on the job, and more will be as the state is forced to hire more than a quarter of a million new teachers to meet an increasingly urgent demand over the next 10 years.

Tonal Consonance versus Tonal Fusion in Polyphonic Sonorities
Kameoka and Kuriyagawa confirmed that pitch register is important in the perception of tonal consonance.
The difference between Kaestner's data for complex tones and the Kameoka and Kuriyagawa data can be attributed to differences of spectral content in the participating tones and to the fact that the intervals lie in different pitch regions.
Som supraoctave data assembled by Kameoka and Kuriyagawa (1969a) cast considerable doubt on the traditional musical penchant to equate compound intervals that are octave-equivalent (as, for example, in the case of the major tenth and major third).

With about 98,000 people living in 81 square miles within the city limits of Kameoka, its population density is very comparable to Stillwater's.
However, it's a bit misleading to consider the total area of Kameoka since about forty percent of the area within the city limits is mountainous with very little development and very low population density.
That's not real high, but when one considers the fact that the altitude in downtown Kameoka is probably less than 200 feet above sea level, the difference in altitude between downtown and the mountain tops is pretty significant.
