Topic: Kamptozoa Entoprocta

 The Goblet Worms (Phylum Entoprocta)
In some text books the Entoprocta are called Kamptozoa (Nodding animals), in other texts, particularly older ones, they are described as being part of the Bryozoa.
The Entoprocta were originally included in the Bryozoa, however scientists later decided that they deserved to be in a phylum of their own.
They are distinguished on the basis of the position of the anus in relationship to the lophophore or ring of tentacles.

The Sea Slug Forum - Trapania sp. 6
What is particularly exciting is that in Takako Uno's earlier message [#8262] he reports it crawling on a white ascidian and eating bryozoans living on the ascidian.
The 'bryozoans' are in fact a species of the small phylum Kamptozoa [= Entoprocta] which we know from many examples on the Forum is the food of most species of Trapania. The 'eggs' you mention are in fact a dense colony of these kamptozoa.
Although a statistician wouldn't like the sample size, it looks like this species of Trapania has an association with a species of kamptozoa which lives on an ascidian.

Re: a lot of fog (halkieriids)
Many morphologists have questioned the monophyly of Lophophorata/Tentaculata, though without getting a good idea where to put Bryozoa.
On the other hand, there are pretty good morphological arguments for linking Kamptozoa and Mollusca (Ax, ?1996, calls them Lacunifera and puts them next to Pulvinifera = Sipunculida + "Articulata".) > And the molecular > evidence is not nearly as definitive as it is being made out to be.
Well, Lophotrochozoa is usually a horrible polytomy, but its contents are interestingly stable...

The Sea Slug Forum - Ancula gibbosa
I prefer to use Kamptozoa as I get confused between Entoprocta and Ectoprocta - Both used to be in the Phylum Polyzoa (Bryozoa) so Ectoprocta now = Bryozoa - confused yet?
In my earlier messages I have shown that species of Trapania also feed on Entoprocts (Kamptozoans).
Considering that you have shown that Trapania also eats them [Entoprocta, Kamptozoa], they are definitely important enough to be named so I have changed the reference at the top of the page.
