Kamrup is an administrative district in the state of Assam in India, named after Kamarupa the name Assam was previously known in ancient times.
Since 2005, this pre-divided district has however again been sub-divided between the Kamrup (Metropolitan) and Kamrup (Rural) districts, the former comprising of the Metropolitan city of Guwahati and the latter the rest of the district.
Both of the district headquarters are located (rather side by side) in the heart of the city of Guwahati.

The Permanent Way Inspector of Jangipur Road was immediately pressed into action and after nearly one and half hours, the Kamrup Express was allowed to cross over the repaired tracks at a slow speed.

The Ahom king, for the first time, acknowledged formally the Mughal overlordship in Kamrup, the Mughals acknowledged the independence of the Ahom king and gave up all pretensions to the territories east of Barnadi on the north and Kalang on the south and the Ahom king agreed not to interfere in Kamrup.

 Kamrup exp escapes blast in Asom, No injury
The Kamrup Express had a miraculous escape when a powerful remote control bomb went off minutes after the passenger train crossed between Barahat and Sapekhati sections in Asom today.
At least one meter of track was blown off under the impact of blast, enough to cause a major derailment, they added.
There is nothing to be surprised of,'' said a senior officer of Asom police attributing all the attacks to the ULFA.

 Manas National Park, wildlife of India
Manas is situated in Kamrup-Golapara district, on the foothills of the Himalayas south east of river Manas along the Assam- Bhutan border.
The beautiful park earlier known as North Kamrup is spread over an area of 391 sq km and was declared a sanctuary on December 01, 1928.
It was established as the core of the Manas Tiger Reserve from April 1973 and elevated to the position of a National Park status on September 7, 1990.

Passengers of the Dibrugarh-bound Kamrup Express from Howrah had a narrow escape when its 10 coaches and engine derailed about 90 km from Guwahati late Friday night.
The derailment took place at around 1030 IST near Pathsala station when the train was moving at a very slow speed due to heavy fog.

Passengers of the Howrah-bound train escaped unscathed, a railway spokesperson said in Guwahati on Monday morning, though traffic on the Guwahati-Dibrugarh section has been disrupted.
On January 10, the Howrah-Dibrugarh Kamrup Express had derailed 80km from Guwahati while some days before that a couple of bogies of the Dadar-Guwahati Express had caught fire.
