Kamuli district is located in south-eastern Uganda, it lies at an average altitude of 1083 metres (3355 feet) above sea level just north of the equator.
The District borders Mukono District in the west, separated by the river Nile, Pallisa in the northeast, Jinja and Iganga Districts to the south.
Kamuli District is oriented towards the south with connections to Kampala, the capital city of Uganda, approx 90 miles away by road.

Kamuli Mission Hospital is run by the Little Sisters of Saint Francis, who certainly are not all little, but they are lovely people and made us very welcome.
We were most impressed by the co-operation between the sighted and the non-sighted students, with the former reading out notes while the latter wrote them down in Braille for the use of the rest of the class.

The strong negative relationship between weed pressure as reflected by weeding frequency and yields (Table 4) is an expected phenomenon.
Although the frequency of weeding was higher in the high weed pressure districts (Kumi and Kamuli), it appears that weeding was  inadequate to increase yields.
The situation was different at individual district level.  In Kumi and Kamuli for instance, land and seed were most productive and had the highest marginal product.  This is probably due to the relatively large land distribution in the area (Table 1) and the lower seed cost.  While for Pallisa, seed and labour were the most productive factors.

 Kamuli Mission Hospital
Rotarian Victor de Lima, from the Currie-Balerno Club, undertook one such attachment in Uganda for a two-month period in 1999, the facilitating Club in the host country being the Rotary Club of Kyambogo in Kampala, Uganda.
Victor's proposal to establish an internal telephone network for the hospital was gratefully accepted by the hospital administration, and our Club raised the necessary funds for this purpose, through a Rotary Matching Grant Project in association with RC Kyambogo-Kampala, who oversaw the efficient installation of the network.

A pilot project to test the feasibility of the Community Based Monitoring and Evaluation System (CBMES), was carried out in Kamuli district between 11th 23rd April 2002.
Kamuli district Committee was was able to publish their report of monitoring in August 2001.
Findings from this report attracted has attracted the attention of many stakeholders both at local and International including the World in Washington that sent a delegation of two people who visited the Kamuli Committee on 10th November 2001 to dicuss how they are monitoring PAF.

Two studies were done in the district of Kumi, Pallisa and Kamuli with the objectives of establishing the major constraints to high finger millet production, the profitability of the crop and identify strategies to mitigate the recurrent yield decline.
A survey of 150 finger millet household (50 from each district) and an on-farm experiment to test the most economically viable planting pattern (broadcast vs. row planting) and fertiliser combination were carried out with the view of addressing these issues.
Returns to labour are less than unity in Kumi and Kamuli districts but more than unity in Pallisa.

 Christian Relief Uganda - Dental Projects
Through the regular generosity of a UK sponsor, the dentist is able to visit the children regularly at Maria’s Care and surrounding villages.
These limited activities have since been expanded to the renovation of a basic dental surgery at Kamuli and expansion of the dental health promotion work.
After much perseverance and dedication she has in the last year secured, through lengthy negotiation, the provision of much needed dental surgery accommodation and access to a dentist at a new hospital being built at Namwenda (some 30 miles from Kamuli).
