Shizuoka Prefecture is an elongated region following the coast of the Pacific Ocean.
May 5, 2005-Two long time twin cities, the town of Kanaya from Haibara District and the city of Shimada(original) merged together to become the new city of Shimada(2nd one).
July 1, 2005-The cities of Tenryu and Hamakita and the towns of Haruno (from Shuchi District), Hosoe, Inasa and Mikkabi (from Inasa District), Sakuma, Misakubo and Tatsuyama (from Iwata District), Maisaka and Yuto (from Hamana District) merged into the city of Hamamatsu.

As of 2003, the town has an estimated population of 20,485 and a density of 318.29 persons per km².
In 2005, Kanaya merged with the long time twin city of Shimada to become the new city of Shimada.

 Green Tea Video Documentary Filmed in Shizuoka Japan by The Discover Channel
Left: A cameraman from The Discovery Channel films harvesting taking place in the same green tea field where many of O-Cha.com Shizuoka green teas are grown.
In September of 2005, O-Cha.com was contacted by producers from The Discovery Channel for assistance in producing a green tea video documentary.
The tea ceremony house located at the Ocha-no-Sato green tea museum in Kanaya, Shizuoka provided the perfect setting for the segment on the Japanese tea ceremony.

I am pleased to announce you that we will organize Asian Science Seminar on Animal Cell Technology (ASSACT2001) in Nagoya and Kanaya (Shizuoka pref.) from November 8 through 16 2001 supported by the Japanese Science Promotion Society (JSPS).
To this seminar, we can invite some 30 young scientists (technicians are excluded) working at research units with public support or studying at graduate courser of universities of Asian countries (Taiwan, North Korea, Russia, Australia and New Zealand are excluded).
We will have a selection committee by the end of July 2001 and will contact personally to the selected participants.
