County officials, recognizing the importance of nontraditional farms, adopted a policy in their 2030 Land Resource Management Plan to support research facilities, nurseries and greenhouses and genetic research.
Kane County's nonbinding master plan calls the western half of the county, or about 178,000 acres, to remain in agriculture through the year 2030.
Kane was the first county in Illinois to adopt such a policy, said Phil Bus, executive director of the Kane County Development Department.
