How worthwhile, after all, could a lived-action film be in which there is a scene where a kangaroo belts out the lyrics to "Rapper's Delight?" The surprise, then, is that "Kangaroo Jack" is far better than it has any right to be (and for the curious, the singing kangaroo bit is thankfully only a dream).
"Kangaroo Jack" won't be winning any awards come next winter, but if there ever was a category for "Worst-Looking Movie That Turned Out To Be Good," this one would deserve a spot within the nominations.

I have to admit something here: I was actually anxious to see Jack when I saw the film's tagline, which I thought read, "He stole the monkey...
And even though those animated shorts were pretty violent, parents never had much of a problem plopping their kids in front of the television to watch them.
Jack's story involves a hapless Brooklyn hairdresser named Charlie (Jerry O'Connell, Tomcats) and his slightly more hapless best friend, Louis (Anthony Anderson, Barbershop).

The only scene in which the "Kangaroo Jack" talks is a very brief one in which one of the characters is hallucinating.
Kangaroo Jack was trying to be an action movie, a comedy, a cute animal movie and a family movie.
KANGAROO JACK, the titular hero, is NOT a talking kangaroo, but the CGI generated marsupial does provide a few laughs.

It turns out to be rather unlucky as the kangaroo isn't dead and has now hopped off with the money that's in the jacket.
For better or worse, all of the talking, dancing and singing occurs during a hallucination, as was the case in "SD." In addition, the kangaroo in question - while given some slight human reactions and expressions - is really just a mega-hopping complication for the film's bumbling protagonists.
Not as abominable or excruciating as I feared it would be, but certainly nothing great, let alone classic, "Kangaroo Jack" will probably hop all over the kids box office until something better and/or more interesting comes along to bounce it off the cinematic throne.

Kangaroo Jack is marketed towards the teen and pre-teen audience with a thin plot, flatulence humor, car chase sequences, juvenile jokes, and an unlikely, overly beautiful love interest.
I can't recommend Kangaroo Jack except for those with children, and even then there are a few questionable scenes.

The city of "New York" is actually made in Sidney with the yellow cabs brought to the place for that purpose only, and "Kangaroo Jack" is convincingly made when he (and his pals) speak in rap music.
A one-joke premise is what describes the plot of KANGAROO JACK, a predictable low-brow film that is helped by the two main characters in the film, Charlie and Louis (Jerry O'Connel, and Anthony Anderson respectively).
The kangaroo is obviously CGI which is purposely made to act a little cartoony because of the nature of the film and the movie has a predictable premise which is clearly stated because Walken's character is a mob boss.

They made it seem like Kangaroo Jack would be talking all through the film.
The cartoonish idea of two adults chasing the hopping kangaroo is not a bad one, but there is no fun in the chase scenes which are shot like an action movie.
Of course, these two city-slicker bumbler best friends lose $50,000 in a jacket now worn by a kangaroo, have two sets of mobsters who want to finish them off, and are "fish-out-of-water" lost in the outback trying to find Kangaroo Jack with the help of a beautiful and charming naturalist (Estella Warren).

The kangaroo was a big hit and the DVD version contains lots of bonus items - animal audtions, dance sequences etc - that have been much played.
On the way they hit a kangaroo with their car, believing it to be dead they dress it up in a jacket and sunglasses to take it's picture.
The kangaroo however is not dead and runs into the bush with the jacket containing the money.
