	Kangiqsualujjuaq, Quebec - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		Coordinates: 58°41′30″N, 65°57′0″W Kangiqsualujjuaq (ᑲᖏᖅᓱᐊᓗᔾᔪᐊᖅ in Inuktitut syllabics; also Kangirsualujjuaq ᑲᖏᕐᓱᐊᓗᔾᔪᐊᖅ) is an Inuit village with a population of approximately 620, located on the east coast of Ungava Bay at the mouth of the George River, in Nunavik, Quebec, Canada.
		In 1980, Kangiqsualujjuaq was legally established as a municipality.
		The community was stricken by an avalanche in the early morning of January 1, 1999, which destroyed the Satuumavik School gymnasium during New Year celebrations, killing nine.

		Hétu said that that until recently he was Quebec's sole avalanche researcher, although he is not a member of, and had in fact only recently learned of the existence of the Canadian Association of Avalanchists.

		Residents of Kangiqsualujjuaq (pronounced Kan-JIK-soo-an-oo-joo-ak) dug frantically through tons of snow that slid down the 250-foot hill and punched through the wall of a school gym, said Luc Harvey, chief of the Kativik regional police force in Kuujjuaq, 190 miles west of the village.
		Kangiqsualujjuaq is a coastal village 950 miles north of Montreal on Ungava Bay, off the Labrador Sea.
