[KS] Old Korean maps of Europe?
My monograph "Cartography in Korea" discusses the famous Kangnido map of 1402, a Buddhist world map of the 12th century, an 18th century Korean globe showing the entire world including Antarctica, and the very popular Ch'Onhado of the 17th-19th centuries, which I believe was a kind of folk literati spinoff of the Kangnido.
There's nothing in any of these maps which has resonance with the concept "medieval," which pretty much is valent only in the historiography of Western civilization.
There are several Korean copies of the 15th and 16th centuries, the oldest of which dates from around 1471; unfortunately, all of them were stolen during the Imjin wars and are now owned by Japanese institutions.

1421 - Evidence - Dr. Gunnar Thompson's technical review of the 1418 map
Since Mercator's maps were regarded as the standard in Europe for over a century, we need to evaluate the possibility that a Chinese cartographer such as Mo Yi-tong might have borrowed from such a map in the 18th century.
A subsequent Ming Dynasty map of Africa was given to the Japanese circa 1402; and the resulting composite map is known in Japan as the Kangnido.
The similarity of the Cantino Map to the Map by Mo Yi-tong suggests that this is an accurate portrayal of the original 1418 Ming World Map.

What I find interesting is that this map appears at the same time of another Chinese map, supposedly dated from 1418, that represents the entire world.
Obviously, the later map is a forgery, but what I find interesting in this appearance of Chinese maps that supposedly ‘prove’ that Chinese sailed around the world before the Europeans is that they seem to be just a means to legitimate China’s contemporary ‘peaceful rising’.
As for the Korean map, I don’t dispute its validity.
