Doctor Watterson was born at Fairbury, Livingston County, Illinois, February 12, 1875, and is a son of William and Catherine (Crebbin) Watterson, both of whom were born on the Isle of Man, off the English coast.
William Watterson represented Illinois as a gallant soldier of the Union in the Civil war, and as a member of the One Hundred Twelfth Illinois Volunteer Infantry participated in many engagements, including the battle of Resaca, Georgia, where he was severely wounded-in the receiving of a skull fracture.
Locating at the junction of the Kankakee and Iroquois Rivers, in Kankakee County, he was the means of bringing to that vicinity a colony of some 5,000 French Canadians, followed by colonists from France, Belgium and other European countries.

Spreading along both sides of the Kankakee River for 11 miles, in an area 6 miles northwest of Kankakee, the park consists of approximately 4,000 acres.
Illinois Routes 102 on the north and 113 on the south frame the park, with Interstates 55 and 57 both providing convenient access.
The interreef rocks in northeastern Illinois are largely silty, argillaceous, cherty, light gray to brownish gray dolomite that weathers brown.

The city was founded in the 1850s when the builders of the Illinois Central Railroad bypassed the French-Canadian town of Bourbonnais (now a suburb) and chose Kankakee as a station because it offered better opportunities for townsite promotion.
The Illinois River is formed by the confluence of the Des Plaines and Kankakee rivers.
Coal deposits were preserved in basins between gentle upwarps in the buried extensions of the shield beneath the Interior Lowlands and also in mildly folded rocks in the miogeosynclines of the inner, less disturbed parts of the Appalachians and Cordilleras.

Returning to Kankakee county in 1841 he at last settled on the farm which is now the home of his son and namesake, and here his death occurred, March 10, 1846.
The early life of Abram C. Beedle was spent on his father's farm in Fountain county, Ind., and in October, 1837, when a boy of nine years, he accompanied his parents to Kankakee county, Ill., which has practically been his home ever since.
