Iyer, Gubbi Veeranna, Balakrishna, and Puttanna Kanagal and over the last few decades Vishnuvardhan, Ambarish, Aarathi, Bharathi, Manjula, Ravichandran, Anant Nag, Girish Karnad, M.P. Shankar, Vajramuni, Shivrajkumar, Upendra, and Narasimharaju.

Kannada film producers coerce the Karnataka government to declare a seven-week moratorium on the release of non-Kannada films in the State ostensibly to save the ailing Kannada film industry.
