I have been to Kansai perhaps 10 times over the past few years, going to and from Taiwan, but I never set foot outside of the airport itself, or even the international transfer area.
When one considers the engineering and construction obstacles involved in building an island, the concept becomes staggering when one adds the addition of an international airport to be built on the island.
The designers of Kansai have very cleverly solved the problem of proper airflow by implementing these very cool looking blue air vents which point upward, directing the airflow into overhead troughs which conduct the airflow along the roof to the other side of the building.
