Topic: Kanto ben

Kansai-ben - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Historically, nearly every village in the Kansai area had a style of speech which differed somewhat from its neighbors; it was once possible for well-travelled people to identify the particular area from which a speaker came.
Due to the increasing influence of the Tokyo and Kanto dialects over the last four hundred years, the intraregional differences have been declining across all of Kansai.
However, citizens of each major city and prefecture still take some pride in their particular dialectical variations, and this has preserved a number of differences between each area in the region.

Kansai - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Kansai region is often compared (yet more often contrasted) with the Kantō region, which lies to the east and is comprised primarily of Tokyo and the surrounding area.
Whereas the Kanto region is symbolic of standardization throughout Japan (from the government to economics to the language), the Kansai region displays many more idiosyncrasies through the culture in Kyoto, the mercantilism of Osaka, the history of Nara, the internationality of Kobe, and the distinct dialect (Kansai-ben) heard through the seven prefectures.
The Kansai region is the mainstay of the counterculture to the Kanto region (Tokyo and Yokohama), and can be said to define the character of Western Japan.

 KANSAI JAPAN
Kansai (関西) is the western region of the main Japanese island of Honshu, second only to Tokyo's Kanto in population.
Kansai people speak a distinctive dialect of Japanese, use less dark soy in their cooking, ride on the other side of escalators and are renowned for humour and their love of food.
Perhaps the most visible difference is a tendency to use light-colored soy instead of dark, especially in soups, and to prefer thick wheat udon noodles over the buckwheat soba favored in Tokyo.

T.R. Malthus: The Unpublished Papers in the Collection of Kanto Gakuen University
There are materials relating to Malthus's wife Harriet, an appendix listing documents in the collection but not reproduced, and another containing "letters" to David Ricardo the authorship and dating of which is unclear.
The second volume closes with a description of the Kanto Gakuen Catalogue.
All in all, while the materials in these volumes may not engender a fully-fledged revision of opinion regarding Malthus, their subject certainly emerges in sharper focus and, in some cases, from an unfamiliar perspective.

Lots of folks responded, with a lot of good suggestions, but none seemed to work for me. Then Ben Davies rose to the occasion, and he and his friend Joshua Titus developed a circuit to emulate a dial tone and the modem to modem link was solved (almost).
It is entirely based on Ben's approach he developed, but due to laptop differences I lucked out and am able to use a slightly simpler approach...
I am forever in debt to Ben Davies and his buddy Joshua Titus, as well as to Dave Lane for their expertise in solving the tough technical challenges of getting this approach setup and functional and their spirit of sharing in making their efforts available to everyone.

Basically, it comes down to this: To the Kanto folks, Kansai people are loud, obnoxious Hanshin Tigers fans that speak like weirdos and really like to eat octopus.
To Kansai folks, Kanto people are a bunch of prissy fags.

I conducted a survey of the regional distribution of foliage decrease in Cryptomeria japonica, and Chamaecyparis, mainly in the lowland Kanto area (Tokyo and adjacent prefectures).
About 30% of the foliage in these conifers was lost, on the average, in stand-alone trees, and trees in the stands have also declined.
