Yoshiro Mori - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mori's predecessor, Keizo Obuchi, suffered a stroke on April 2, 2000 and was unable to continue this office.
Mori's biggest public relations disaster was to calmly continue a round of golf after receiving the news that the US submarine USS Greeneville had accidentally hit and sunk the Japanese fishing ship Ehime Maru during an emergency surface drill on February 9, 2001, resulting in 9 dead students and teachers.
Mori played the game of rugby union at Waseda University and developed a passion for it there, though he was never a high-level player.

The setting of London serves as an additional character in the story, and it is fun to see Emma negotiating the city she goes on errands for her mistress.
Mori uses grey tones to make the art in the book look antique.
Mori’s author notes show a genuine enthusiasm for her subject, which is evident in the care and attention to detail that can be seen throughout this manga.

Teenreads.com -- EMMA, Volume 1 by Kaoru Mori
Emma is a demure lady's maid with a story that is all too familiar in Victorian London.
Kaoru Mori is a confessed fanatic about British history and social customs, and her love of the time period and exhaustive research really show.
Emma's story is one of drawing rooms, street corners, attics and ballrooms, and each is drawn with fascinating precision and detail.

The AnimeOnDVD.com Staff And Industry Journal » Sneak Peek: Emma from CMX   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-10)
Mangaka Kaoru Mori, who has an unabashed mania for all things English, has funneled her passion into her first serialized manga, “Emma,” a story set in England at the end of the 19th Century.
Emma, the heroine of the story, is a young girl who was rescued from a life of destitution and raised to become a proper British maid by Kelly Stownar, a childless widow and retired governess.
Although Mori’s character design doesn’t quite reflect it (as Emma doesn’t look much different from the other female characters her age), Emma is a beauty and has caught the eye of a great many men.

 Emma: Volume One
It's not often a manga makes you say "Oh my goodness, this is so cute, I could just eat it up." Even the stuff for kids with cute fuzzy fantasy animals has something darker behind it, such as evil organisations, controlled cockfighting, and stuff like that.
But Emma, a manga by Kaoru Mori and published by CMX, is a guiltless, unadulterated dose of cute with no baggage.
Kaoru is trying for sweetness, and at that she definitely succeeds.

Kaoru Mori possesses an amazing talent for conveying so much emotion and life within the characters, which makes this manga a joy to read.
I am a huge fan of the original Emma series by Kaoru Mori, which tells the tale of a member of the gentry and a maid falling in love against society in Victorian England.
The series has now been licensed by DC Comics under their CMX label, and also was adapted into a mildy popular (in Japan) anime series, I blogged, a while back.

Interview: Kaoru Mori - Anime News Network
Born in Tokyo on September 18, 1978, manga-ka Kaoru Mori had been creating doujinshi (under the penname Fumio AGATA 県 文緒) about British maids in late 19th century for many years, before having her breakout hit Emma serialized in Comic Beam as her commercial debut in 2002.
Mori-sensei is very shy and has declined interviews and other types of public appearances (including having her picture taken) other than her autograph sessions.

The anime adaptation of Kaoru Mori's maid-tastic historical/romance manga, "Victorian Romance Emma" finished airing, and we are very happy to have brought the entire series to you.
Yet another maid-tastic manga from Kaoru Mori, "Shirley" is a collection of her earlier doujinshi giving an evocative glimpse into the daily life of winsome, 13-year-old Shirley, a maid in turn-of-the-century England.
It is often compared to Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou, as both mangas feature languid pacing, atmospheric backgrounds, and a female main character who works in a cafe.

Kaoru Mori has a bit of a Victorian England obsession; she has stacks of pictures and information and references on the period, and it shows in her work.
To help out, Mori has also published the Emma Victorian Guide, a companion reference to the series.
And for those of us not fluent in Japanese, the IIChan Translation Group does their part with "Whisper's Guide to Emma's World." It's a short feature after every episode, and two pages after every volume, explaining references.

UK Anime Net v.06 - Manga Reviews
Emma [or to use her Japanese title "Victorian romance Emma"] is a series by the new and upend coming artist Kaoru Mori, with this being her first self - created series to be published by a mainstream manga company.
It is currently being serialised by the Japanese comic company Beam Commix, is being translated and released in the west by DC comics' DMX and has also been adapted into a 12 - part animated series.
The first thing that made his series stand out for me was the absolute attention to detail about Victorian life that Kaoru Mori has done on this series - testament to her research, and a standard that many artists and writers should aspire to.

Having finished the main manga, Kaoru Mori began a set of side stories: Emma Bangaihen (Further Tales).
The animated series was intended to have 36 episodes, but the quality - and the research - sent it so far over budget that it cuts off rather abruptly at episode 12.
IIChan has translated a one-volume collection of Kaoru Mori's earlier work, "Shirley" - clearly Emma's predecessor.
