Kapisa Province is located in central Afghanistan, North of Kabul, with a population of 369,200.The ancient town of Kapisa (Bagram), founded by Alexander the Great, was used as a military base by the Soviets and is now a base for American Forces.
is one of the 34 provinces of Afghanistan.
The population of Kapisa is estimated to be between 262,000 and 270,000, although there has never been an official figure.

It was formed in 2001 from the northern parts of Laghman province and Konar province.
Located on the southern slopes of the Hindu Kush mountains in the northeastern part of the country, Nurestan spans the basins of the Alingâr, Pech, Landai Sin, and Kunar rivers.
It is bordered on the north by Badakhshan province, on the west by Kapisa province, on the south by Laghman and Konar provinces, and on the east by Pakistan.

BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan, March 7, 2007 — Bagram’s Provincial Reconstruction Team visited Kapisa Province to deliver materials and supplies to the Department for Women’s Affairs, March 5.
“The women of Kapisa have suffered both psychologically and economically for many years because of war, so we’re very thankful for the Bagram PRT,” said Saifora Kohistani, director of the Department of Women’s Affairs in Kapisa Province.

KAPISA PROVINCE, Afghanistan (USASOC News Service, Sep. 29, 2003) — With the opening of Mir Masjidi Khan Teachers’ College Sept. 27, another brick was laid down in the U.S.-led coalition’s ongoing efforts to build a solid educational foundation for future generations of Afghans.
In Kapisa province alone there are over 70,000 students and the number of teachers is no more than 2,500, according to Kapisa province education minister Mohammed Asif Farhad.
However many of the new students are already teaching at various schools throughout the province and will continue to teach in the mornings and then attend their classes at the college in the afternoon, Farhad added.

The extent and location of opium poppy cultivation was surveyed in 6,842 villages in 18 provinces, including the 3 provinces in which opium poppy cultivation was verified in 1998 but could not be surveyed due to security constraints.
In Kunduz province opium poppy was surveyed in the districts of Aliabad, Chahar Darreh, Emam Saheb, Khanabad, Kunduz and Qala-e Zal.
It is reported that the threat of a rapid increase in opium poppy cultivation in Shindand district is exacerbated by its proximity to major opium trading routes, and the absence of off-farm and non-farm income opportunities in the area.

Military officials said a weapons cache located near Chamkani contained 12 rocket-propelled grenade rounds, one incendiary round, three boxes of ammunition, one box with 25 mortar fuses, four 82 mm mortar rounds, 12 75 mm recoilless rifle rounds and 12 RPG boosters.
Another cache in Zabul province contained mortar charges, five pounds of ammonium nitrate and an unknown number of blasting caps.
And in Kapisa province, three 107 mm rockets and four projectiles were found.

More than four days of armed clashes in the Kohbandha District of Kapisa Province have resulted in the deaths of 13 people and the wounding of 15 others, Radio Free Afghanistan reported on 18 September.
General Abdul Aziz Safi, the security commander of Kapisa, confirmed the number of causalities and said the fighting is due to "personal animosity between two commanders." Safi claimed that a cease-fire is in effect.
The military planners are set to report back on 26 September with an assessment of the security risks in Afghanistan and options and requirements for expanding the mission.

Opium poppy is hardly cultivated in this region except for a limited amount in the Tagab Valley, Kapisa province, the Sarobi district of Kabul province and the Azro district of Logar province.
Cannabis was an important commercial crop in the Azro district of Logar province but was replaced by opium poppy after the Taliban ban.
