provenance of sediments of northeastern karaginski island   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-29)
The provenance and tectonic setting of the sediments and rare cobbles from the accretionary wedge on Karaginski Island were examined.
Previous studies of the sandstones [Shapiro et al., 2000] showed that they dominate in debris whose composition is very similar to those of the felsic extrusive and intrusive rocks in cobbles and boulders embedded in the sediments.
Nonetheless, this structure is too small and too remote from Karaginski Island to supply enough material for the middle Eocene-early Miocene accretionary wedge sediments.

During the spring-early autumn period, major prey items in Karaginski Bay and the Gulf of Anadyr include Arctic cod, sand lance, sculpins, flatfishes, cephalapods (mainly octopus), and a variety of shrimps.
By March-April they are concentrated mainly in the ice front at or near the southern ice margin in a band that extends from Bristol Bay in the east to Karaginski Bay in the west.
Centers of abundance are in western Bristol Bay, near the Pribilof Islands, and in the eastern Anadyr to Karaginski Bay region.

Spotted seals, Phoca largha, in Alaska.(Cover Story) - Marine Fisheries Review - HighBeam Research   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-29)
Aerial surveys along portions of the Gulf of Karaginski and the Gulf of Anadyr during April-May 1987 resulted in estimates of 28,000 and 50,000, respectively (Fedoseev et al., 1988).
Sightings of pups in August along the south coast of Nunivak Island, in particular in a lagoon near Cape Mendenhall (Brian McCaffery(29)) suggest these may have been harbor seals; however, ADFG records of seals harvested at Mekoryuk (Frost et al.1) indicate there were spotted seals on the north side of Nunivak Island.
Because Kuskokwim Bay lies between Nunivak Island and Nanvak Bay, it is possible that animals on the Kuskokwim shoals are also a mix of both spotted seals and harbor seals.
