One Slovene botanist wrote that it is "the daughter of the Slovene mountains".
It is a gentian of honourable age which is endemic to the Kamnik-Savinja Alps and the Karavanke in Slovenia, and Carinthia in Austria, and there is also one site in the Venetian Alps in Italy.
Its localities in the Karavanke are completely isolated, so this Balkan high mountain species is relatively endemic in Slovenia.

The longest Slovenian road tunnel, the Karavanke tunnel between Slovenia and Austria, celebrates its tenth anniversary on 1 June.
Before the opening of the tunnel it was expected that some 6000 vehicles would drive through it every day, but due to the war in former Yugoslavia the traffic was more light (2,300 vehicles per day in 1992 and nearly 5,000 per day last year).
The Karavanke tunnel is the longest and the only one-tube tunnel among them.
