Karen Walker (character) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Karen, originally meant to be a supporting character on the show, has emerged as a favorite of viewers and thus made more of a focal point on the show.
Karen's childhood was a rocky road thanks in part to her unstable relationship with her mother, Lois Whitley, a con artist who incorporated the young Karen into her schemes.
In another example of miscommunication, Karen used to end phone calls with Rosario by saying "hola," which means "hello" in Spanish and not "goodbye." When Rosario was first seen on-camera at the end of the first season, it was revealed that she spoke English quite well, and that Karen was being patronizing.

 Excite - Fashion & Beauty
Though Karen Walker is far from a household name in America, the designer is rapidly becoming a legend everywhere else.
Walker's look is at once tailored and gritty, classy and streetwise, morbid and cute - and if that sounds like a hard trick to pull off in apparel, it's doubly tough to imagine how so rich a personality could be translated into the language of jewelry.
Walker is hardly the first jewelry designer to make use of the macabre in her work - New York's Mended Veil, for example, has already set the bar for upscale goth with bleeding pendants and skull insigniae.

But then, there are few things about Karen Walker that can be said to be representative of the average woman of any sexual orientation, which is one of the reasons we keep tuning in to watch her every week.
Karen is also just plain funny, interesting, and unconventional, and a refreshing departure from most female sitcom characters.
Wanting Karen to be bisexual doesn't mean she is, and unless the Will and Grace writers decide to finally give Karen a girlfriend, we'll have to look elsewhere for that.

Mullally doesn't feel she has anything in common with Karen Walker, her TV alter ego, except for her character's joyfulness and "openness" to bisexuality (she is married to Nick Offerman, however).
The role of Karen Walker has also earned Mullally four nominations for the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series, which she won in 2002, 2003 and 2004.
She hates Karen Walker's fashion sense, referring to it as "too rich lady" or "too froufrou." Megan prefers less feminine, looser fitting clothing, and one of her favorite articles of clothing is a suede Tiffany-blue Elmer Fudd-style hat with ear flaps.

Although Will and Grace are the characters around which the series officially revolves, the two secondary characters have become so popular over the years that they have developed a cult following of their own, with many Will and Grace fans referring to the show as The Jack and Karen Show instead.
Karen is a wealthy, spoiled socialite with a shopping fetish and a very distinctive high-pitched voice, the kind of woman "who thinks an act of kindness is letting her step-kid have the fruit out of her whiskey sour", as her housekeeper described her (Season 2, Episode 15).
Karen is also not exactly heterosexual--or as Mullaly describes her, she "goes both ways" (the actress, who recently became engaged to a man, has also described herself this way).

Will & Grace, which featured a gay central character, was a somewhat unusual choice for the network, but NBC had so much confidence in the show's potential that by the end of the season it was moved to NBC's powerhouse Thursday night lineup.
Jack also becomes fast friends with Karen Walker (Megan Mullally), Grace's filthy rich, essentially unemployable assistant whose main skill is popping pills.
In the first few episodes, Mullally's Karen is far less helium-breathed than she would become, and the character is more of a ditsy princess than a venomous diva.
