Karinto (sometimes spelled karintou) is a traditional Japanese snack food.
Sweet and deep-fried, it is made primarily of flour and sugar.
Karinto has been available from from street merchants since at least the Edo-Tempo period, roughly 1830 to 1841.

Karinto, chowmein, manju were also prepared for sale and others helped at the white elephant, crafts & book sales.

CONSTITUTION:The stalks or tops of SHIITAKE mushroom are sliced, fried in oil at a medium temperature, coated with hot molasses of sugar and water, and dried to give SHIITAKE KARINTO of good texture, having good flavor and fine taste in sweetness.
PURPOSE:To enable cultivation of large-sized SHIITAKE mushrooms of high merchandise value by regulating room temperature of an environmental regulating room for maturing operation so as to keep a high-temperature period and adjusting the room temperature for development operating and collecting so as to periodically repeat the high- and low-temperature periods.
