KARL ALFRED VON ZITTEL (1839-1904), German palaeontologist, was born at Bahlingen in Baden on the 25th of September 1839.
To make his work as trustworthy as possible Dr Zittel made special studies of each great group, commencing with the fossil sponges, on which he published a monograph (1877-79).
Dr Zittel was from 1899 president of the Royal Bavarian Academy of Sciences, and in 1894 he was awarded the Wollaston medal by the Geological Society of London.

Karl Ritter von Frisch (November 20, 1886 – June 12, 1982) was an Austrian ethologist who received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1973, along with Nikolaas Tinbergen and Konrad Lorenz.
He studied zoology with Richard von Hertwig whom he later succeeded as a professor of zoology at Munich, Germany.

Später dehnte er sein Arbeitsgebiet stratigraphisch auf den gesamten Oberen Muschelkalk aus und fand nach der Wende in Thüringen eine neue Aufgabe.
Dort und in den benachbarten Gebieten (Raum Würzburg, Coburg, Osthessen, Sachsen-Anhalt) nahm er Hunderte von Profilen in Steinbrüchen, Bachrissen und Straßenböschungen auf, außerdem Bohrprofile, die ihm zum größten Teil von der Thüringer Landesanstalt für Umwelt und Geologie, aber auch von Bohrfirmen zugänglich gemacht wurden.
Willy Ockert zeigt damit, dass die in SW-Deutschland von Georg Wagner eingeführte und seither verfeinerte, hoch auflösende Bankstratigraphie an den Oberen Muschelkalk Mitteldeutschlands angebunden werden kann und dass diese Methode in Mitteldeutschland zu genauso exakten Ergebnissen führt wie im Südwesten.

It is known from von Haven’s diary that he left the Grönland on 17 February 1761 and travelled overland to Marseilles.
Nothing is known about the journey of the other members of the expedition except that they were reunited at Marseilles and visited near-by “Estac” on 28 May. Their next stop was Malta (June 14-20), followed by stops at some of the Greek Islands and more on the mainland (25 June).
The very title of von Haven’s diary, Tagebuch über eine Reise von Suez each dem Djebel el-Mokateb getan vom 6ten bis 25sten September 1762, shows that the expedition left Suez on 6 September 1762 and reached Djebel el-Mokateb on the 25th of the same month.
