Sammo and Karl play a pair of cops who are infamous for their unique approach to police work.
Something I found more disturbing than all of this is the kicking she gets from Karl Maka at one point in the film.
There is brilliant screen chemistry between Karl Maka and Sammo Hung that can only be attributed to their long and successful history together.

Sammo Hung and Karl Maka are streetwise detectives fighting a running battle against a triad crime syndicate, headed by Lau Kar Wing.
Nevertheless, the film is primarily lighthearted and a bit thin, but Maka and Hung romp their way through it having a great deal of fun.
Maka plays the wisecracking smart guy of the duo, chasing girls with a twinkle in his eye and concocting elaborate plots.

I was a fairly surprised when I heard that Karl Maka directed this one.
For those of you who don't know, Karl Maka is a comedian who is responsible for films like Dirty Tiger, Crazy Frog and Odd Couple.
Maka's characters each have their own ulterior motives, as you will find out if you watch this film.

Karl Maka has worn the mantle of actor, producer, director, and screenwriter during his illustrious career in the Hong Film industry.
Maka also devotes much screen time to the antagonists, and there are moments when this feels like a heist movie.
Maka employs comedy only to depict some of the more outrageous character types, and the humor never takes away from the gritty, hard driving, Spaghetti Western edge of SHAOLIN KING BOXER.

 Thirty Million Dollar Rush
In 1987, the beginning of the golden era in HK cinema, every movie that came out despite being good or bad, has this sense of confidences that would only be made in that era.
The movie itself is nothing special, in fact, not even up to the usual standard of a Maka's comedy and no where near the cinematic experiences of Aces Go Places Series, however as silly as it may be, watching the movie gives you this late 1980s feel of the HK golden era.
The performance of Maka is his usual self - funny, stupid, idiotic and hahaha (his voice).

Even more unfortunately Sam's partner (Dean Shek), the only person who knew the secret hiding place for the diamonds, is killed by the local triad but not before managing to give Sam a clue to the location; the co-ordinates have been tattooed onto the bottoms of two former girlfriends.
Sam Hui and Karl Maka play off each other brilliantly and although the humour is not too subtle at times it is genuinely funny.
Nowadays though, just seeing Karl Maka on screen is enough to bring a smile to my face.

To add to this, Hui's accomplice (Shek) hides the diamonds before his untimely death and just has time to tell Sam that the location is tatooed on the bottoms of former girlfriends.
The skill of director Eric Tsang is his ability to blend the caper-comedy inter-play of Hui and Maka with a number of nifty set-pieces and stunts.
The performances are all first rate with the chemistry between Hui, Maka and Chang being an obvious highlight.

A pair of mismatched cops (Hung and Maka) bumble their way to take down a drug dealer in this enjoyable comedy-action picture.
The comedy, like many of Karl "Baldy" Maka's movies, might be too broad for some, but it works well for the most part, and the action scenes are also effective.
There are a few scenes, such as one where Maka "beats some sense" into Carrie Ng, and a later very violent assassination attempt against her (as well as some gratutious nudity), which feel very out of place with the rest of the movie and come off as a bit unsettling.

 The Thirty Million Rush
This enjoyable comedy mixes the familiar ingredients of fast-paced comedy, spurts of action and thin plot, alongside a cast of welcome faces.
Effectively, the strength of Karl Maka's slice of entertainment is its wilful exuberance and obvious intention of creating a fun atmosphere.
Once again Karl Maka's skill as a director is shown to be limited and far too prone to slip into a general lack of order; as the film nears its end, this glaring problem becomes more and more pronounced.

 Aces Go Places IV
There are a few scenes that are quite gripping and would have felt very out of place in the earlier films — one of Sylvia Chang fighting to get her son away from two hoodlums becomes an angst filled nightmare of motherly love.
The other is when it appears that Baldy (Karl Maka) has been killed and Sylvia goes into catatonic shock and Sam goes crazy with a need to kill and gain revenge.
Sam of course brings in his friends Karl and Sylvia to help out and after an ice hockey game (is there anything these two can't do?) and another chase (in which Maka excells), the film gets serious.

The humor is very much in the vain of Sammo Hung's or even Yuen Wo Ping's films, minus the high level of quality martial arts choreography.

Champ was responsible for Capone's prior incarceration, so he begins his revenge by sending zany killer Eric Tsang after him.
