	Karl Wallinger - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		Karl Wallinger (born October 19, 1957 in Prestatyn, Wales), is a Welsh musician.
		Wallinger was immersed from a young age in the music of The Beatles, Beach Boys, Bob Dylan and Love.
		Wallinger's musical career began in the 1970s with a couple of unsuccessful bands and a brief job in music publishing, after which he became musical director of The Rocky Horror Show.

		Karl Wallenda (January 21, 1905 - March 22, 1978) was the founder of The Flying Wallendas, an internationally known daredevil circus act famous for performing death-defying stunts without a safety net.
		On July 18, 1970, a 65-year-old Karl performed a high-wire walk across Tallulah Gorge, a gorge formed by the Tallulah River in Georgia.
		In 1978, at age 73, Karl attempted a walk between two hotels in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on a wire stretched 37 metres above the pavement, fell to his death when winds exceeded 48 kilometres per hour.

		"Dumbing Up" starts off badly with what may be Karl Wallinger's worst recording, the annoying faux hip-hop "Here Comes the Future." Although the rest of the album is much more listenable, it seems as though Wallinger is running out of new ideas.
		Why this cd has not been released in the US is another example of American record companies witholding the good stuff from the cd buying public in favor of fluffy pop/rap stars (?) that are all advertising image over musical quality.

		Though Wallinger joked that he wished he had formed the group with somebody else - anybody else - so that they could handle the interviews for him, he said he decided to go solo because he is a difficult person to please.
		While it would've been logical for the 29-year-old musician to put his own moniker on the record cover, he chose to go by a group's name.
		Though he's not a household name, Wallinger said he has dealt with fans who've asked for autographs and "chatted me up about being a pop star." He said he doesn't take any of this too seriously because longevity in the business is only as long as the success of the next record.

		arl Wallinger’s World Party initially seemed destined for great things, one of a handful of neo-psychedelic bands who successfully transplanted their quasi-hippie hearts into the modern environment of synthesizers and studio wizardry (add Tears For Fears here too).
		Wallinger looked like a cross between Bob Dylan and John Lennon, sounded like Mick Jagger, and wrote moving songs that felt doomed despite their pretense of optimism.
		If the sentiment behind the songs sounds outre today, it did when it was released too, which is what pop preserved in slightly psychedelic amber will do.
